Discovered 2 weeks ago that my elderly and seldom venture in to the back yard cats had fleas. This is a first for us, as they dont really go anywhere to pick them up iyswim. Anyway, got them some frontline and have treated them both, also got some nuvan staykill and have sprayed everywhere in the house, including my mattress twice!!! But I am still being bitten, relentlessy. My legs look absolutely disgusting and I feel really grotty and grubby, not to mention itch like hell! The cats aren't even scratching anymore ffs!!! Can anyone suggest anything please?

they are probably jumping off the cats and biting you more. Try excessive vacuuming for a few days and then some more spraying of the carpets. That should get the little blighters!

thats vacuuming the house not the cats

The way we got rid of a pretty horrible infestation was to give them the tablets that kill the fleas from inside (if you see what I mean) You can crush them into food, but I can't remember the name now. You can get them from the vets and some pet shops (about £7). And we got the council round to spray the house which was only about £20.

I wonder if you have a nest of them somewhere, or if some eggs are in the carpet. It can take 2 weeks for them to hatch or they lay dormant until they think a host is near ie vibrations of someone walking past. When I moved into my new house the fleas from the previous owners cats were still there and I had to get a pest control company in to spray the whole house. It worked and I was being eaten alive, it is is horrible.

When we moved in here 3 years ago, we were getting jumped on every morning when we came down stairs. I would stand there and pick them off my legs and ankles, stick them in a glass of water one by one, then chuck it down the sink.

The previous tenants had cats and obviously never treated them. (or paid any bills, it soon became evident from all the bailiffs letters but that's another story!)
I didn't treat the house and after about 2 weeks it stopped. They can't live long without cats, as human blood doesn't cut it for the poor darlings

I imagine it's the same if the available cats are poisonous. Don't panic. Oh and BTW frontline takes a few cycles to kick in properly and eggs will still be hatching while it does.

There were cat fleas in the carpet when we moved into our 'lovely new house' last autumn (along with a filthy kitchen etc etc etc ) and the blighters targeted me - apparently sometimes they really go for one person in particular. It went on for far longer than 2 weeks (sorry!) and we had to get the council in, which cost us £65 ([envy of someone else's £20)
