More than a little bit worried. I have a tumour in my ankle which was picked up by the physio on ultrasound. Seems a stupid place to have a tumour....who the hell gets ankle cancer?

Hi, didn't want you to go unanswered, hopefully this will help bump you up in 'active convo'. It is a scary moment when they put you on that 2 week referral but the good bit is you will be seen soon and will have a plan to deal with whatever it is. Hope you have support in RL xxxx

The 2 week referral is standard practice for unknown lumps OP so don't be too worried by that. It ensures you will be seen promptly. It's very unlikely that it is cancer but even if it should turn out to be something nasty there is always a plan! Do you have any other symptoms or worries at all? The waiting and the unknown is always the worst part but at least you don't have long to wait.

YetAnotherThing · 14/12/2018 17:47

Any lump even if almost certainly benign has to be referred on 2 week wait, as the alternative diagnosis until biopsied etc could be cancer. Fingers crossed it turns out to be nothing. The good news is that you’ll be seen and sorted quickly.

NicoAndTheNiners · 14/12/2018 19:52

Thanks. Hopefully that's the case. Anyone know if they're likely to biopsy it on the first appt.

Please don’t panic. Lots of benign tumours/lumps are found as a result of scans for other things. Most people have things like this in their body. But if found, they will investigate as a matter of urgency.

ILoveDolly · 14/12/2018 21:49

They just like to check up anything which might be a dodgy lump nice and quickly. Good luck Flowers

I had breast cancer and yes biopsy on first appointment. Have you found the ladies support thread? Amazing women who will gently hold your hand through the anxious wait. Best wishes

Thanks. Will check the thread out, didn't know about it.

Just popping in to day that my mum has had 4 tumours in her finger.

Her little finger on her left hand.

We had a German Sheppard dog while I was growing up and she was playing with her one day and the dog jumped up and hit my mum's finger which basically snapped. Go on xrays etc at A&E they also discovered that she had a tumour on the knuckle.

They removed it it was fine no cancer. It came back a further three times. The fourth time they did a bike graft to repair the finger as the th our and operations had eroded so much bone away. It hasn't come back since then and that was about 15 years ago now.

However, in her words, they can chop the bloody thing off if it comes back again 😂

I'm sure all will be fine OP

I work in nhs admin managing incoming referrals. A huge number of 2 week waits come in but thankfully very few actually go on to be ca. Try not to worry x

Hope all went well @Nicoandtheniners
