Has anyone had these and have any ideas on how to get them to go quickly??

Ds 11 has one on his eye, eyelid is swollen and covering part of his pupil. Doctors advice is "bathe" it. Which we are doing 4 times a day with a hot compress.

He's refusing to go to school as it looks hideous, and doctors told him to have a few days off😩

Anyone...?

I had one years ago. I did all the bathing and warm compresses religiously but it wouldn’t shift. In the end I had it surgically removed. Under local anaesthetic so no pain at the time but it was sore afterwards.

JugheadismyHero · 14/12/2018 18:55

Thanks @AlexaAmbidextra how long did you have to wait to get it drained? Ds has had his for over a week but doctors don't want to touch it until it covers his whole eyelid

Oh goodness, that seems a bit excessive. I was fortunate in that I was a hospital ward sister so I just grabbed one of the docs who wrote me a referral for the eye clinic. I’d had it for about three weeks but it wasn’t obstructing my vision. I just had a lump like a pea on my eyelid.

This is it today, he bathes it and has hot compress on it regularly but it's just getting biggerConfused

My daughter gets those. Diet v important. Lots of vit c and zinc. Lots of rest. B vitamins (get a vitamin tablet if necessary)

JugheadismyHero · 15/12/2018 18:21

He has a multi vitamin daily.

He's putting a hot compress on as much as he can.

Take him back, OP. That looks really painful and potentially nasty.

FreezerBird · 15/12/2018 18:42

You could get another opinion from an optician. - they'll be familiar with these and can refer to eye clinic.

JugheadismyHero · 15/12/2018 19:30

Ooohh good idea, there's a vision express in tescos near me so will pop in tomorrow with him.

I'm planning on ringing gp first thing Monday morning, if it gets bigger tomorrow would minor injuries/walk in be suitable to take him??

I had one of those a few years ago. At first my gp thought it was conjunctivitis but the drops didn’t help. Then he prescribed something else and it didn’t help either. Eventually they sent me to an eye clinic in the hospital. I was told to do hot compresses and they also gave me artificial tears to put into the affected eye. They did tell me to contact them if it doesn’t get better.
It might be worth taking him to minor injury unit.
I do hope your son will get better soon.

JugheadismyHero · 16/12/2018 19:04

So minor injuries have been the most helpful so far. They rang the on call ophthalmologist at our hospital who said there wasn't much that could be done until he's had it a few months 😖 Just continue with the hot compress and massage it.

Ds is very upset they couldn't do anything though

But seriously there is nothing they can do for this...???

Just feel so sorry for my boy

I've had this twice, and both times my local eye hospital cut it out. Quick procedure, in and out in 15 mins. They turn the eyelid inside out with a cotton bud and slice it open underneath. Bandage overnight and some antiseptic ointment, sorted. I was referred by my GP, but you could just go direct to the eye hospital- at least you can to ours. Good luck!

MariaNovella · 16/12/2018 22:11

If the NHS won’t operate you could have it surgically removed privately. My DH had one of these and the surgery is very quick.

Fairylea · 16/12/2018 22:14

Feel so sorry for your son Sad How awful, it looks like it must be affecting his vision too.

I would get a second opinion in a and e.

Failing that if you can afford it I would go private. See if an eye specialist can do something.
