Threaten of dismissal for being off sick

I was off work for 2 days a couple of months ago with a regular sickness bug. This resulted in my employers sending me quite a strongly worded letter about this being the 4th occasion I have been absent in the last 12 months (total days off 6). It basically said if I had time off in the next 2 months I could face dismissal and I must endeavor to not be ill! I have now had to have more time off due to a chest infection, on medication and seen by a doctor. Since then my company has been taken over and we have new contracts. Sickness is also worked out over a rolling year, which i also don't really understand as now I have been off 3 times in the past 12 months. Just wondered if anyone knows whether I can actually be dismissed due to genuinely being ill and how I stand with the change of employer?

Yes, you can be dismissed for absence.

Better to post on the Employment Rights board for advice.

3 absences in 6 months and 4 in 12 months are pretty common triggers, by the way.
