Long term medications

Just wondered if anyone could advise. When I was out my DH had a phone call from his GP. Never happened before. He did see him about 3 weeks ago. He's been on statins for 12 years, has mobility problems in his legs and decided he wanted to come off them. GP agreed to a statin "holiday" until middle of January to see if the muscle pains in the legs improved. No luck as yet
.
Anyway GP phoned this afternoon to say that he'd been looking through his medications and noted he'd been on aspirin since 2006 and they weren't sure he really needed it. It was up to him to decide!
All sounds very strange to me. Could they be doing some sort of checks on their patients? He's not sure what to do about the aspirin and he did ask why they'd put him on it in 2006 but the GP couldn't answer that. Apart from that he's on Perindopril and Furusemide and something for an enlarged prostate.

Just seems that 12 years of being on something and nobody checking before is a bit weird.
