Ok, 2 months ago I had my eyes tested. Have worn glasses since I was 13 for short sightedness.

I went to an independant opticians whom I have used several times before and who half of my family still use.

When I went, i had on glasses from Specsavers. The optician told me that they were too strong and thats why i had been getting headaches and occasional blurred vision when looking from the tv to something close by.

So i get a new perscription and last thursday I finally collect my glasses. When I first put them on they seemed fine, and they alwasy warn you that they might seem weird at first anyway if the prescrition has changed which mine had but only slightly.

It's now sunday and my vision seems to be crap. I cannot see with these glasses as well as I could with my old ones at all. My mum said that my old ones were too strong though and thats why i could see better with them, but these seem crap. Yep I can see, but not as well as before.

If i look away from the computer and look across the room everything seems blury and just not right.

I am going to go back on thursday as ds has his eye test, but i am worried that they might say they are ok when i don't think they are. It took me ages to save up for new glasses and now they are crap.
The whole reason i had my eyes tested was so i could safley start driving lessons, and now i feel less confident about being able to see than before

I've had a simi;ar thing a couple of times before, after about a week (and yes a very frustrating week!) my eyes adjusted. I went back to Specsavers and asked them to look at the fir and that helped, one lens was slightly nearer my eye and that wasn't helping. Hope you get it sorted out, problems with your sight are really depressing aren't they?

fransmom · 24/06/2007 20:34

oh babe def go back and tell them - and say as well - i paid for these glasses on your say so and they aren't any good for me. sort it out.

maybe someone else might be able to put it nicer? fm x

HonorMatopoeia · 24/06/2007 20:34

sorry - meant 'look at the fit' not the fir!

Thanks

I'm going to ring them tommorow and explain just so they know that I will want seeing on Tuesday. I also had a pair of prescription sunglasses, cos i get headaches in the sun, and they have a mark on the lense so also need to go back.

I hate it, cos i trust them to get it right, and pay alot of money and end up with glasses that I can't see out of.

Whenever I've had glasses which have taken more than a few minutes to get used to, it's because they have put the wrong lenses in, they have the base curve of the lens wrong, or there has been a fault in the material of the lens.

Take them back and ask them to make sure that the lenses are perfect, and that they have been made up to the correct prescription. If they are, then ask to have your eye test done again - they should do it for you without charging you if it seems that the prescription is wrong.

Have they given you something like the thinner, lighter lenses that they often try to flog? I found those were impossible to get used to.

I used to work in an opticians and anyone who came back with specs that were not right were seen again and supplied with new specs until they were right AT NO EXTRA CHARGE!! If you feel the sight test you were originally given was correct then my advice would be to go to another opticians (look for ones that deals on 1/2 eye tests) and get a second opinion. If you want to post on here or CAT me the results of both eye tests I can tell you if there is a big difference between them or not. Then go back to where bought the specs and politley ask that they correct their mistake and supply with specs fit for the purpose. This comes under the sales of goods act and they CANNOT fob you off!!!

Unfortunately Opticians are seen by many as unquestionalble (a bit like GP's) as most people don't know much about eyes etc... they just assume that opticians always get it right, they dont!!!!

Sorry, just read that back and it sounds really blunt, it wasn't meant to

I don't have the presxcription strength of my old glasses flumpy.

The only difference with my new ones is that I had a coating put on them to stop reflections and glare (was thinking of car headlights), never had that on them before.

Just had a thought, will try my sunglasses on and see if i can see better with those.

Right, tried sunglasses and they seem slightly better (they don't have the coating on). They don't fit very well though, so thats another thing to mention.

Tbh I doubt I will ever use this opticians again. I waited 2 mths for them to get my glasses and now this.

I know quite a lot of people who have had problems with specsavers tbh

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 24/06/2007 21:40

i had problems with one lot of glasses, they had put the lenses on the wrong way, left on right, rioght on left./ and there is a massive difference between each lense. i was almost sick each time i wore them.
