15yo has been asleep all day. Should I "Do" something?

He wasn't himself all weekend. A 15yo boy who barely touched his food!

He got up ok this morning and ate breakfast as usual, then went to be sick, although he wasn't. He's been asleep ever since, not stirring when I go into him. Do I just leave him?

Has he had any fluids at all since breakfast? I would wake him gently to make sure that he can be roused, take his temperature and see if you can encourage him to drink something.

He doesn't have a temperature. I went to work first thing and he was awake in bed and drinking then (8am) but he was soundo when I got home at 11:30

Given he's been 'off' all weekend I would probably want to speak to someone if it was my teenage ds

FannyFifer · 10/12/2018 16:12

Is he rousable?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 10/12/2018 16:12

I would just see if you can get him to drink something then. Teenagers have an infinite capacity for daytime sleeping even when they're well IME so it won't do him any harm to sleep this off so long as he is not getting any worse.

Bestseller · 10/12/2018 16:44

Thank you. I've been and disturbed him and he did speak to me but he's gone straight back to sleep

OP posts:
FannyFifer · 10/12/2018 19:29

How is he now?

Bestseller · 10/12/2018 19:30

He got up briefly and had half a crumpet, then went back to bed.

Consider the possibility of glandular fever.
My ds was exactly like this when he had it.

Bestseller · 11/12/2018 08:25

Ok, now I'm starting to get stressed.

He's pretty much slept for 36 hours, taken occasional sips of water and eaten half a crumpet. Plus barely ate over the weekend.

He doesn't see to have "symtoms" as such. He says he feels sick, but hasn't been sick. No temperature, headache, spots or sore throat. He's coherent when I rouse him but goes straight back to sleep

He doesn't even seem to need to get up for the loo! .

There's no point in seeeing doc, is there? Theyll just say it's viral?

*coherent when I rouse him....

ErictheGuineaPig · 11/12/2018 08:27

I would absolutely speak to a gp in those circumstances. He's drinking and urinating much less than normal and falling straight back to sleep when roused. Please ring your surgery for advice and tell them those symptoms - don't downplay it by saying 'not himself' or 'sleepy'

Claw001 · 11/12/2018 08:29

As long as he is drinking, it’s usually the 3 day rule ie no improvement after 3 days see GP.

No harm in giving your GP a ring or 111, if you are worried.

Aqua25 · 11/12/2018 08:30

I would call the drs or 111 and get their advise, its been too long now for him to still not be ready to wake up

Quartz2208 · 11/12/2018 08:31

I would seek medical advice to be honest

Holidayshopping · 11/12/2018 08:33

Definitely see a doctor. Is he coherent when he’s talking to you? Does he say he’s very tired? Slurring? Achy?

Bestseller · 11/12/2018 08:36

Yes, he can talk normally. He says nothing hurts, he just feels sick and wants to sleep

OP posts:
Claw001 · 11/12/2018 09:45

I have a 14 year old and he can do some sleeping at weekends, even when well!

If no other symptoms, other than feeling poorly and sleeping, for one day, I don’t think you have much to worry about.

Give 111 a ring if you are worried, to be on the safe side.

OneStepMoreFun · 11/12/2018 09:49

I'd think that's just his body conserving energy to fight off a virus. But definitely worth getting him checked out at GPs if there are no other symptoms. Hope he's better soon.

Walkingthroughawall · 11/12/2018 10:49

If he’s not peeing he needs to see a doctor today. From a doctor.

MrsMyrtle · 11/12/2018 13:34

I,d want to check his blood sugar too. Get him to an appointment with GP surgery or walk in centre. Hope he is ok x

NanooCov · 11/12/2018 14:53

If he's not peeing I would be very worried.

Neurotrash · 11/12/2018 15:51

Hope he's ok. Could also be a uti?
