Ventrical Septal Defect - basically it means you have a leaky valve between the heart chambers.

RLR · 26/06/2007 22:23

he didnt say how long we will wait he just said soon i will get letter in post.

No, I did get the scanner with milk - really - I was very pregnant, and they press quite hard with the scanning wand and 'bullseye' .

I doubt a 3 year old will have that problem though!

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 26/06/2007 22:24

RLR, my dd2 murmur was picked up at a paed appointment in 2003 for something. he asked us to go back to GP i na couple of weeks to see if murmur could still be heard, GP heard it, so re-referred back to paed, who listened again, and THEN referred her to cardiologist for a echocardiogram. The specialist team from harefield hospital came to the local hospital, and dd2 was seen there. she has an innocent murmur.

Then we did the whole lot all over again for all 3 dd's at the xmas just gone due to dh heart problems (his are very complex) and to rule out our children having heart problems. as well as dd2 innocent murmur, our dd1 has a murmur and a leaking mitral valve, our dd3 has no heart issue.

your funny you have cheered me up lol lol

RLR - my dd1 has an innocent murmur which was only checked out properly last year (aged 5 then) although it had been picked up at 6 week check and during various illnesses. Nothing to worry over - really. Just useful to know for when you go to the dentist and anaesthetic needed. But I do sympathise as I was worried until a GP friend explained it all to me.

RLR · 26/06/2007 22:29

lady.....
i hope they are all well.
my dd has never had any problems other than asthma.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 26/06/2007 22:30

yes they are all well, dd1+2 both has asthma, and i just keep an extra eye on dd1 as am anxious at times about it, but its so minor, that she doesnt have to be seen for another 3.5years now.

RLR · 26/06/2007 22:30

why is it useful when u go dentist please fill me in as im not sure

RLR - see - even if it is something - the worst it will be is preventative antibiotics before surgery or dental treatment which - apart from giving you the hassle of having to administer them - is not a big deal!

Balls · 26/06/2007 22:31

Need doctor to explain - I'll make a hash of it! It's only if they have anaesthetic though.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 26/06/2007 22:31

if they need dental treatment, fillings etc then if she has a murmur she will need antibiotics before.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 26/06/2007 22:33

And they're in the middle of trying to change that chocco - it's likely that only certain conditions will need anti-bs in the future.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 26/06/2007 22:34

sagger, will my dd1 need them because of the valve and not the murmur? (didnt really check with cardio what it meant)

RLR · 26/06/2007 22:34

well thats good that they are well .
i think it gives them that extra bit of specialness knowing they have an extra special noise in their hearts thats how ive discribed it to my dd.

OP posts:
Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 26/06/2007 22:36

The last research recommended anti-bs only for replaced valves, people who've previously had endocarditis and those with systemic shunts. That cardios still have to clarify it though 'cos I don't think they're very happy about it.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 26/06/2007 22:36

mine needed to know more details, but they know how hearts work.

i did get stuck explaining liver function the other day, not my speciality though lol.

RLR · 26/06/2007 22:38

LadyVictoria - oh liver function is easy - the liver is like the mop of the body, it cleans up after all the drunken parties.
