What should I know about general anesthesia?

I had my first GA last week for a short op and I'm having a longer one on Monday. Last week the anaesthetist asked whether I wanted the gory details, he recommended that I say no. So I did, I was nervous 😂
I came home after op and had no idea why I had a sore throat or why I couldn't tell when I needed a wee etc. I was put under without any extras and woke up without them so I had no idea.

The op next week is much longer. Obviously I now know I'll be intubated and have a catheter, this one will have to stay in for a day or two.I didn't like the feeling of being ignorant about it and not knowing what they had done while I was out. Obviously this time I'll say I want the gory details!

Is there anything else I should know?

The best person to talk to is the anaesthetist that will be looking after you on the day as they will have the benefit of knowing what operation you're having and what your normal health is like, and those are the things that will determine the specifics of the anaesthetic technique. A longer operation doesn't necessarily mean you'll be intubated. A catheter is not an anaesthetic requirement but may be a surgical one.
