Cancer support 67. Waiting for tests, just diagnosed or needing a handhold through treatment

purpleunicorns · 06/12/2018 18:22

Welcome to the 67th cancer support thread, the previous one can be found here.

If you're looking for advice, have any questions or just need some support while you're waiting for test results or treatment to start then pull up a seat and make yourself comfortable. You can rant, cry or scream if you need to but we do have some laughs along the way

No questions are silly so please don't feel embarrassed about anything you want to post. The chances are at least one of us has been there at some point!

There's a whole variety of people with different cancers at different stages and nobody goes unanswered, the people on here are amazing (even if I do say so myself Grin) and they have been a massive support to me over the last year.

If you have a friend or family member with cancer then there's a support thread for you here with lots of practical advice to help you support your loved ones

At the beginning of each thread we give a brief summary of who we are and what we have to save us trailing back through old threads

Here's mine: Im 35 and was diagnosed last October with cervical cancer, despite chemo and radiotherapy I found out in June that it had spread and I'm now having palliative chemo to keep me stable. A scan a few weeks ago showed that there was no new growth after 4 lots of chemo. 2 more chemos to go for me so I'm hoping it stays that way

Ah fuzzy that sounds tough - is he gone til Easter? Can you go and visit?

I found I was ok on the tamoxifen for the 3 months I was on it so good luck xx

KeepCalm · 01/01/2019 15:13

If ONE MORE PERSON wishes me a happy & healthy 2019 I will go TITS!
Literally. Cancer filled (left) tits.

Sorry, rant over. As you were ladies, as you were Blush

Ginisatonic · 01/01/2019 15:46

TQ Brave or possibly still a bit drunk from last night!
I was definitely a Donny fan although I did have a David Cassidy album or two as well.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 01/01/2019 15:49

KeepCalm aghhhhh I have rage for you

FuzzyWhiteLegs · 01/01/2019 17:03

Thanks KBG - yes gone til beginning of March, unless we squeeze in a sneaky long weekend somewhere! We have been doing this for two and a half years now and I am honestly so grateful that he was able to be here for the last six months while I had the bulk of my treatment, but it still sucks!!

TwitterQueen1 · 01/01/2019 18:20

KeepCalm I know EXACTLY how you feel. I have not replied to anyone's Happy NE messages - luckily there have been very few. I got 2 'get well soon' cards when I was first diagnosed - from people who knew how serious the dx was and that I would need extended chemo and an op, minimum. I threw them straight in the bin.

noodles44 · 01/01/2019 19:23

mrsT I was sent home with co-codamol from hospital. I was told to start taking it as soon as I got home that night and also double or alternate with an anti inflammatory like ibuprofen too if needed. I alternated the drugs do I didn't end up too constipated. Also, avocados and nuts are supposed to be good for natural anti inflammatory properties, so worth having some in if you need a boost.

fuzzy sorry about your Dad, that must be tough, as well as your partner heading to the US for a while too. I hope you have some good local support close by if needed.

I am feeling a bit sorry for myself tonight. My eye where the shingles is is really sore and scratchy and my temple near the rash feels all sensitive, like if you have flu and your skin feels bruised. We went to the coast earlier for a walk which was lovely, but my shingles feels quite irritating as a result. I think now I am not on pain killers following the op I am probably getting the shingles pain that they previously masked. I have just taken something, so hoping it all calms down soon.

KnickerBockerGlooooory · 01/01/2019 19:44

Noodles that does sound a bit miserable. You've had this for a little while now - hope it all buggers off soon!

Name yes there is something about him! New love interest in this latest series apparently!

KnickerBockerGlooooory · 01/01/2019 19:45

Too many exclamation marks there - I think the rhubarb gin is working Grin

KeepCalm · 01/01/2019 20:01

@KnickerBockerGlooooory only two exclamation marks which is completely acceptable so carry on with the gin

@noodles44 Nelsons tea tree antiseptic cream is your friend when dealing with all things pox/shingles related Thanks

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 01/01/2019 20:10

Goodness, it's been busy today!

I've been dozing on and off most of the day. I didn't really sleep last night and I've been feeling rather melancholy.

Waving to everyone and hugs to all who need them Glitterball

And now I have Long haired lover from Liverpool in my head... Xmas Hmm

noodles44 · 01/01/2019 23:09

Thanks for the tip keepcalm I have just ordered some. I was just told by the doctor to use savlon if it went a bit manky. The rash itself doesn't look as angry, it it that sore bruised feeling under the skin which I think is nerve pain, plus my sore eyeball that is bugging me most. I am ready to try anything that helps though!

LondonHuffyPuffy · 01/01/2019 23:30

Loving the first single/ album posts.

My first singles - I bought two in Woolies on the same day, we’re Flash by Queen and The Tide Is High by Blondie. I think my first proper album was Chart Hits 84 which I four for Christmas that year, along with one of those cassette players that were sort of half a shoe box.

I overdid the alcohol last night and felt shocking today. Have slept on and off all day. I have a hacking cough and a very sore mouth and the PICC line entry site is a bit sore but to be expected I guess.

Hope everyone is ok this evening.

KeepCalm · 01/01/2019 23:54

Oh I hope helps @noodles44 !
@LondonHuffyPuffy did much the same myself. Tomorrow I'll do better HmmGrin

Mrstraveller · 02/01/2019 08:04

I can’t remember my first single or album. I do remember being a big fan of Roxy Music’s later stuff. Had the album Avalon and played it relentlessly. When I went to University I think I listened to a lot of Sade, Prefab Sprout and EBTG. I got rid of all my vinyl at some point and really regret it now record players have come back!

KeepCalm · 02/01/2019 08:17

I don't remember mine. I think my first 'single' was Torvil & Dean as I liked the music to their Bolero Grin

My first concert however, was MCHammer. I'll get my coat Blush

iVampire · 02/01/2019 09:10

That’s OK, KeepCalm my first concert was Cliff Richard! First singles were from ‘Grease’

(I didn’t need to get any Cockney Rebel, TQ as my DBro was a fan)

I only had one ‘healthy in 2019’ message, but that came from a friend who is living with HIV so it came across as an ‘in this together, staying healthy on meds’ sort of message which I didn’t mind.

But I’m off later this morning to get bloods done. And appt next week is where I will hear if they need to switch meds. I haven’t told anyone this in RL, as I don’t want to deal with their worries. My own Pre-Appointment Tension is quite enough!

And also, I’ve not heard from family member who was expecting results between Xmas and NY. It’s their news and their timetable, so i’m sitting on my hands (but that’s taking quite an effort)

Fluffysunshinepants · 02/01/2019 10:08

Waves to all x

First album was more than likely a generic Now album, absolutely no recall of first single

First concert was Def Leppard, which i attended again this year, the day my diagnosis was confirmed

KnickerBockerGlooooory · 02/01/2019 11:49

Good luck ivamp
I have my second chemo this afternoon and thankfully feeling a lot calmer about it; I know what to expect this time Smile

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 02/01/2019 13:45

I'm so sleepy today. I keep nodding off. So just sending love and good luck and hugs and anything else that's needed Flowers

TwitterQueen1 · 02/01/2019 13:58

Enjoy your snoozes Leslie. Hope the melancholy has lifted a bit. I have no wise words to say Sad.
I think my hacking cough is finally on the way out, thank goodness. Hospital again tomorrow.

KeepCalm · 02/01/2019 14:59

@Fluffysunshinepants NICE! I'd love to see DL! We flew down to Pearl Jam in June at the O2 only for them to cancel at 4pm. This was our second attempt at seeing them as the first time I had a MC & couldn't go. DH making up for it by taking me to see the Greatest Showman Live this summer similar no?!?

@KnickerBockerGlooooory good luck with the chemo

@WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo I did nothing but snooze yesterday and I feel better for it today. I hope you do too x

Mrstraveller · 02/01/2019 16:12

KBG. Hope chemo goes ok.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 02/01/2019 17:31

Evening all. Not much to add, just hope everyone is ok, not suffering from side effects too much.
I'm shattered, think it's the combination of finishing chemo, thinking I'm superwoman and Dec was massively busy. Poor kids have been indoors apart from the supermarket so I must try and get them out somewhere tomorrow!
Treat myself to a full Camembert today which had been reduced to £1, know have to spoil myself! Grin

Fluffysunshinepants · 02/01/2019 18:26

@Keepcalm it was fab i took my wee beastie, so my first experience of a concert was her first concert as they played the same set as the original tour!

I'm sure the Greatest Showman will be fab x
