Please help- ds has a fever, conjunctivitis and someone just mentioned measles/

Can this be true? He hasn't had mmr yet as he's only 14 months old, and what do I do?

Is he teething? My DS gets horrible eyes, temp and cold with teeth. Try not to panic....

he's got 4 teeth, and had mild temp with that, but this seems really bad.

Have you given him anything to control his fever? Chances are that this will then help him through the night, but perhaps if no improvement by the morning take him to a walk in centre (shouldn't be too busy first thing Sunday)

What makes you think measles? My 5 month old ds2 had conjunctivitis with a temp just a couple of weeks ago and was fine, it could just be that. He had a cold which lead into the conjunctivitis.

None of mine had or will have MMR we're giving singles and they were delayed by us.

If you're worried give the gp a call.

I've been giving him calpol every six hours or so, and dabbing him with cool water and putting him in front of a fan. HE's had a temperature since Friday afternoon though and it seems like his body aches. He's just started nursery. I got to measles by googling only as he's never had conjunctivitis or such a prolonged fever before.

Ds2 had a fever of around 102 for a few days before it went, medicine brought it down a bit but it kept going back up. It's how the body fights infection. How high is his temp? If you're still concerned call out of hours gp or nhs direct.

Oh and stop googling! You'll always find the worst thing!

oranges, try alternating baby nurofen with the calpol, to keep his fever down. Poor LO, I hope he feels better soon and that the Measles bit turns out to be (very likely, I think/hope) a Google-fear.

If I'd had every disease I've Google-feared I'd be dead twenty times over MN much safer...

My friend's dd has had conjunctivitis with a virus recently - she probably rubbed her eyes with a hand that had touched her nose/mouth.

All that said, if you're worried, I'd call NHS direct - can't hurt, might help?

The temp went up to 39.9 at one point, but is around 38.5 most of the time.
Elibean, why alternative calpol and nurofen? Will it be easier on him? Thank you so much for the advice?

talking to myself here - I just googled nurofen and calpol, and got to another mumsnet thread on how to alternate them! So google does have its uses....

i think (but check with nhs direct) that you can actually give calpol and nurofen together if the temp is not coming down. cos the nurofen has no paracetomol in it. when my ds was really poorly with bad temp it was bronchiolitis, is his chest ok -not sounding rattly?

chest sounds okay at the moment. Breathing is a little laboured though. temp up to 39/2 and i just gave some nurofen. poor little mite. thank you again for sitting with me.

How is he now? If he's the same then I'd call the drs and if breathing is laboured then a&e. Another reason to alternate the 2 meds is that they can then be taken more often. If only calpol then it's every 6 hours but you can take calpol then nurofen 3 hours later and so on.

My DD developed measles at 4 months old So still possible to have it these days.
And as someone else [posted nurofen inbetween the time of capol is good at keeping temp down and is ok to do (we do it often as dd get high temps just looking at a cold )
Its better to give inbetween times rather than at same time as then the temp is likely to stay down. so say 12pm capol, 3pm nurofen, 6pm capol blah blah

he's better - ibuprofen seems to work much better than calpol at keeping temp down, though his eyes are red and he's been given antibiotic drops for them. Doesn't seem like measles, but I'm keeping an eye out for a rash. lisad - was your dd okay?

Yes she was fine, although has always suffered from very high temps since, which I wonder sometimes is linked. Shes 4 years old now
