Hi everyone.
I’m 31. Feeling wiped out last couple of months and had a UTI so had some bloods done. Hb was 98 and ferritin 6. Have had some iron tablets already but increasing them, not getting on great with them. Anyone had similar problems and does anyone know if that affects fertility as been TTC first baby.
Not sure the cause, periods are fairly light
Thanks

No wonder you're feeling wiped out with levels that low. You could ask if you'd qualify for an iron infusion (different from a blood transfusion) but I expect not, sadly.

If you're not getting on with the iron tablets there are different types that can be better tolerated so it's worth discussing with your GP.

I hope you start to see an improvement soon Flowers

I have anaemia..iron tablets don't make much different to my levels. The best thing for me when I'm feeling low is special k cereal!! While doing bloods throughout my pregnancy, she could tell when I had gone crazy for special k because my ion levels would be perfect!! Eat special k, lots of cabbage with meals and half a pint of Guinness a day if you can..it will make a difference I promise!

Drinking guineas will have zero effect on your iron levels but it's full of calories so unless you're trying to out on weight I'd avoid. Lots of red meat, dark green veg & fortified cereals. Avoid tea and coffee as the tanins will stop you absorbing iron. If you can take the iron with a glass of ora ge juice, or anything else high in Vit C, that will help.

Ask your GP for ferrous fumerate instead of ferrous sulphate, much gentler on the stomach, and keep up with the folic acid (presume you're taking this anyway if you're TTC). It may also be worth having your B12 levels checked too. Anaemia shouldn't have any effect on TTC but definitely worth getting it sorted before falling pregnant and keeping an eye on it during pregnancy.

Thank you everyone. Guinness and cabbage!
I will try to get the other type of iron and having them done again in 6 weeks

Also take llysene (health food shop/ boots) as it greatly increases absorption (google it!)
