Folate 5.1 ug/L
B12 532 ng/L
Ferritin 92 ng/mL

There is a lot of conflicting advice out there, and it especially seems recommended levels are different between the UK and USA so if anyone has any wisdom I would greatly appreciate it!

Do you have the ranges too so we can where you fall in the range?

AGHHHH · 06/12/2018 00:13

We need the ranges to be sure but ferritin and B12 seem to be fine, folate is OK but could be a bit better.

Do you have the thyroid result ranges?

CooksMatches2 · 06/12/2018 10:31

Hi @TryingToJuggle and @AGHHHH Smile Here are the ranges:

Free T4 13.0 pmol/L (range 9-19)
TSH 0.33 mU/L (range 0.4-4.9)
Folate 5.1 ug/L (3.1-20.5)
B12 532 ng/L (187-883)
Ferritin 92 ng/mL (15-204)

What's the background here? Did you think you might have a thyroid problem until you got these results? Do you have symptoms?

Pending that, B12 and folate could do with a boost. Ferritin's OK

Tsh is thyroid stimulating hormone and is fine; worth remembering that free t4 can vary during the day and is within range.

Tackytriceratops · 07/12/2018 16:03

To clarify; tsh being just under with middle range t4 means it's ok.

A much lower tsh could mean over active thyroid but it would be 0.0something ish and your t4 isn't displaying this.

CooksMatches2 · 07/12/2018 18:13

Well the context is that to me this is looking like an overactive thyroid.

But. I have every single symptom of an underactive one. People laugh at me for how cold I get at work. My hands and feet are like ice. My hair is thin, and thinning. My nails are weak and bendy. I’m in a fog of tiredness every single day. I get constipated.

It is utterly bizarre.

No way are you hypERthyroid. For that you need TSH below range, with FT4 and FT3 above, often way above.

You could potentially have secondary hypOthyroidism, but you'd need your FT3 checking to prove that.

As you have classic symptoms of hypOthyroidism, I'd go back to the GP and ask for a referral.
