How long would you expect a rash from an allergic reaction to last?

So on Sunday I developed an all over body rash. Nurse said it was an allergic reaction. Still have rash though and now vomiting and diarrhoea. Is it definitely an allergic reaction would you think? Antihistamines appear to be having no effect on it, though the rash has changed from little pin pricks to more of an all over blotchy rash.
Feeling very peed off. Too late to try to get a GP appointment today, but will try to get one tomorrow I guess.

What is with the whole don't go to the dr malarky? Is it a way of making getting an appointment easier? Because we all have google now and should be able to self diagnose and just ring up and ask for appropriate treatment?

LEMtheoriginal · 04/12/2018 23:41

Thats good - re the blanching. Hopefully you'll feel better soon.

Zulor · 04/12/2018 23:42

I genuinely don't think it's an allergic reaction anymore. Though the nurse did ask 'any vomiting or diarrhoea?' when I was in A&E Sunday. So maybe that can be an associated symptom of a reaction, or maybe a rash combined with V&D indicates something else altogether. In any case, I didn't have V&D while in A&E so answered No to that question. Then it hit me early hours of Sunday morning. Explosive diarrhoea which has continued through to today. I don't know. Will spray myself with Dettol and go to the GP tomorrow.

If you have D&V, you can do use yourself in Detroit all you like but you’ll still be having episodes of vomiting and/or diarrhoea in public which is the real infection control risk.

Zulor · 04/12/2018 23:47

Well I'm not sure about using myself in Detroit KonaMum, but I'll bare that in mind. Thanks.

Well using oneself in detroit sounds enough to cause a rash in the first place

Zulor · 04/12/2018 23:53

PMSL LemOriginal.
We could be getting closer to the truth hahah.

Honestly, in the past six weeks, I've had a litany of illnesses.. I should just ring a bell shouting Unclean whenever I approach people.

Zulor · 05/12/2018 00:01

I'm sure there was a biblical story of Lepers (those having leprosy) having to ring a bell whenever they came into town but Jesus had no issue dealing with them. Or that could be my vivid imagination.

LEMtheoriginal · 05/12/2018 00:04

Yeah but jesus was the son of God and survived crucifixion - leprosy was a walk in the park for that dude!

Allergic rashes can last weeks. Viral rashes can last a while.
If you've no other symptoms then I wouldn't go to the Doctor.

Zulor · 05/12/2018 00:22

I'll think you'll find he died on the cross and rose again on the 3rd day!

My slight concern is that it could be viral meningitis.

Zulor · 05/12/2018 00:29

It's all coming back to me now. Yes, he came out of the tomb he was in and went to see his apostles and Thomas was like 'fuck off, you're not Jesus' and Jesus was like 'eh, if you want to stick your hand into my wounds you're welcome to'.

My mother always called me a Doubting Thomas.

Was probably a very skeptical child.

You went to A&E for a rash? You got reassurance that it was an allergic reaction. Now because your vomiting you want to see your gp thinking you might have meningitis.

If you had meningitis you wouldn't have the energy to post with such clarity at this time of the week.

The irony is thr most likely scenario is that you had an allergic rash and the caught d&v at the hospital because someone was there for vomiting and thinking it was serious.

You sound like you suffer from health anxieties. Very common. I did too, but it diesnt mean that people telling you to call your gp instead of going there is wrong advice.

Hope you are better this morning.

At the children’s hospital this morning. Reminded me of this thread.

How long would you expect a rash from an allergic reaction to last?
YouBoggleMyMind · 06/12/2018 21:31

@KonaMum 👌🏼

CoteDAzur · 06/12/2018 21:45

Of course OP will go to the doctor and see what is wrong with her. It could actually be something serious and requiring prompt medical attention. This place fucks me off sometimes Hmm

OP - Does your rash itch? Is it raised and in patches (urticaria) or pinpricks all over (more likely a viral infection)?

Did the rash start in a certain part of your body? Is it all over now?

Do you have a fever?

If antihistamines are not helping at all, then it is quite likely not an allergic reaction.
