Sick Note Advice

Just looking for some advice or opinions really. After a couple of weeks of being unwell and having numerous blood tests etc without any diagnosis things came to a head on Friday when I collapsed and ended up with a head injury. I was taken to hospital and have been to see my GP today who has told me I have concussion and shouldn't drive. He subsequently signed me off work for a week, to be reviewed next week.

I work about an hour commute by car and after having a month off work over the summer through work stress, I am now overly worried about the security of my job if I hand in this sick note.

Does anyone know if there are any legal implications to me going in against my GPs advice or if I keep this information from my employer?

Thanks

Your gp has advised you not to drive for yours and others safety, suppose you become unwell and cause an accident. Whatmhappens if you b3come unwell at work. You could try and see if your employer would agree to unpaid leave, annual leave instead of sickness, what information wouldn't you share with them. Your health is your priority, going against the g.p. seems pretty irresponsible.

I suspect your insurance would be invalidated if you drove whilst concussed.

A colleague of mine had emergency surgery for appendicitis last year, and was signed off. He insisted he had to come in to work because things were so busy (exam time). Work actually said he wasn’t allowed to be on the premises because if anything happened there, their insurance wouldn’t cover him. (Obviously not the case if someone is signed off and has to go in to attend meetings with HR/occ health.) When he returned to work he was not allowed to teach and had to do office based duties for a period of time.
