(Sorry its abit long bare with me)
I'm 9 weeks pregnant,
About 4 weeks ago i started to develop a pain in the left side of my back, ive had no bleeding or anything like that and no tummy pains
Its been getting worse and worse everyday, sometimes it would lock and i would be stuck frozen to the spot in so much agony that i couldn't even move for about 5-10mins
Ive been to gp doctors and he said because i'm pregnant there is nothing he can give me/ do for me he just suggested to take paracetamol
Ive been taking paracetamol most days, but its not helping me 😢
The pain is getting so bad i can't do my day to day usual stuff Sad getting up of the sofa, and when having a bath/shower i need help to get out.
The pain is also down my left leg
Ive not had any injury or strain to cause it
About 15mins ago i was with my dog outside and the pain started, my mum had to help me into the house and sit down on the sofa.
I sat down and the pain was so bad i felt almost like i was going to pass out and got really nauseous 😢
My left leg is numb and feels so weak i can barely move it Sad and my back is so bad its brought tears to my eyes im currently on sofa unable to move again😢
Im at my witts end, i thought about A&E but if my GP cant help me i don't see how they will be any different
What can i do Sad has anyone got any advice

Are you weeing fine?
Friend got bad kidney stones in her 7th pregnancy. All kinds of linked problems.

Bombardier25966 · 02/12/2018 14:41

Have you had a scan?

You should go to A&E if the pain is as bad as you describe.

angandbaby19 · 02/12/2018 14:44

Hi no not had any scan yet
And i'm going to toilet fine no problems 😢
Just dont see how a&e can help me if own gp can't and said theres nothing really anyone can do regarding medication or anything Sad

Sounds like i felt when I had a slipped disc and trapped nerve and sciatica. I'm really sorry you're in such terrible pain. If it is a slipped disc then sitting is much worse than lying or standing. You can't manage that kind of pain with paracetamol. The GP needs to listen seriously to you.

Polkapjs · 02/12/2018 14:45

Try a chiropractor maybe?

Anasnake · 02/12/2018 14:45

Sciatica?

Rattinghat · 02/12/2018 14:45

I don't know about back pain in pregnancy specifically but Yin Yoga has helped me a lot with back pain that was so bad I had to be given gas and air by an ambulance crew to get out of bed. Plain old fashioned walking helps a lot, but not if your dog pulls on the lead. Also make sure not to wear bags on one shoulder or carry heavy shopping in only one hand - get a backpack and always wear both straps.

Back pain is a fucker because it kind of feeds off itself - the actual pain might be tiny, but the area around it spasms, and then it spreads and gets entrenched. Half the battle is mental - not being frightened by it.

MrsSpocksSister · 02/12/2018 14:49

You're describing sciatica (trapped nerve). I have it too. You need to see a specialist. Urgent GP appointment, tell them about the new symptoms (leg pain, numbness). Pregnancy often sets it off. Get well soon.

MrsSpocksSister · 02/12/2018 14:50

No yoga or chiropractor until you see specialist, then ask them.

carnationmilkcraving · 02/12/2018 14:51

Could be sciatica
Could be a kidney infection
Could be hydronephrosjs

You can have a lot more then paracetamol when you're pregnant.

Go to a&e and get them to scan your kidneys and do bloods

LuluJakey1 · 02/12/2018 15:32

It sounds like sciatica to me - I had it once and the pain was awful.

carnationmilkcraving · 04/12/2018 18:54

How are you doing?

Weezol · 04/12/2018 19:00

A & E - once you have an answer your GP should be a bit more helpful. There are things other than paracetomol, but it's far better to find the cause of pain than to mask it with painkillers.

Ollivander84 · 04/12/2018 19:04

A&E. If you develop any numbness underneath, around your bum, feel like you've wet yourself or have any change in bladder or bowels then go STRAIGHT AWAY
But I would suggest going anyway

angandbaby19 · 04/12/2018 19:15

Doing abit better just keeping up with painkillers, went up one a&e (theres 2 near to me)
They said they don't do scans and theres nothing that anybody could prob do for me anyway because 'they can't prescribe much for pregnant women'...
I suggested the other one to her she said the same thing 'its a long wait' and 'i dont think they will do anything' wtf
Made a appointment for friday with another gp, like someone said previous they need to take it serious and listen to me Sad
Hopefully GP will look into it more

You need to seek urgent medical advice if you have numbness in one or both legs.

CleverQuacks · 04/12/2018 19:23

There is plenty of painkillers suitable for pregnancy. When I was pregnant with my third I had morphine due to severe pelvic pain. Obviously you need advice from a consultant or specialist but don’t be fobbed off that you can only take paracetamol.

Anasnake · 04/12/2018 20:47

I had horrendous sciatica when pregnant, had acupuncture which really helped.

Minnie747 · 05/12/2018 23:54

A chiropractor who specialises in pregnancy care, but any chiropractor should be able to do a thorough examination of you. They can refer onto the medical profession if required too (as chiropractors are also primary healthcare professionals). Hope you get some care soon.

Singlenotsingle · 06/12/2018 00:00

As I was reading through the symptoms, I thought sciatica. I had it once and the pain was horrendous. Normally I would suggest going to a chiropractor but don't know if that's wise when you're pregnant.

Ollivander84 · 06/12/2018 00:02

Please please don't go to a chiropractor unless you've had an MRI and know what's going on. It could have made mine much worse - a physio refused to touch me and sent me for an MRI whereas the chiro was adamant I needed treatment
I had a massive herniated disc with cauda equina

Minnie747 · 06/12/2018 00:05

Single - As far as I’m aware there are absolutely no contraindications to chiropractic treatment during pregnancy. Some women do decide not to have care, during their first trimester, but it’s a personal choice.
