Worrisome discoloured patches, increasing.

I posted about this earlier in the year and the patches are increasing in number. They're in my groin crease and are smooth and don't itch, a little scaly maybe.

I've had steroid creams and antifungals of every variety and have a dematology referral in January but really worried. It's been going on for a couple of years from one small patch.

What the hell are they? An I turning into a leopard and can I make it stop?

Is it pigment changes ?

Talith · 02/12/2018 15:53

It's definitely gone brown so yes. Could look likes birthmark if it hadn't completely not existed a few years ago!

Vitiligo?

Talith · 02/12/2018 17:13

It's pretty much the opposite as medium tone skins gone darker 😁

Are you well in yourself? Skin discolouration can be a sign of adrenal insufficiency.

I had discolouring like that on my forehead and cheeks. Slowly started to disappear when I stopped taking the pill. Do you take anything with progesterone in it?

Talith · 02/12/2018 18:35

I had blood tests and all came back normal. Liver, kidneys red and white blood count, vitamins etc.

I'm pretty much ok otherwise. Not taking any other medication.

I wondered if it was related to perimenopause. I got spotting between cycles and that never happened before.

Have you been checked for Addison's Disease OP? I think that involves a cortisol test, among other things. This is the NHS list of symptoms/tests:

lack of energy or motivation (fatigue)
abnormal drowsiness or tiredness (lethargy)
muscle weakness
low mood (mild depression) or irritability
loss of appetite and unintentional weight loss
the need to urinate frequently
increased thirst
craving salty foods
Dehydration can also be an early sign of Addison's disease. It's caused by lack of the hormone aldosterone in your body, which is used to regulate the balance of salt and water.
low blood pressure when you stand up, which can cause dizziness and fainting
nausea (feeling sick)
vomiting (being sick)
diarrhoea
abdominal, joint or back pain
muscle cramps
chronic exhaustion, which may cause depression
brownish discolouration of the skin, lips and gums (hyperpigmentation), particularly in the creases on your palms, on scars or on pressure points, such as your knuckles or knees
a lack of interest in sex (reduced libido), particularly in women

If Addison's disease is suspected, blood tests will be carried out to measure the levels of sodium, potassium and cortisol in your body. A low sodium, high potassium or low cortisol level may indicate Addison's disease.

Talith · 03/12/2018 13:16

I had some blood tests and everything came back normal but I'm not sure that they were testing sodium potassium or cortisol. I might go back and ask! These marks are really depressing me every time I see them I feel like they're worse...

They don’t check cortisol as standard as Addison’s/AI is quite rare so definitely go back and ask for it to be tested.

I have the exact same thing now i would appreciate if you would update on what it was ???

DS had adrenal insufficiency, it was confirmed by a synacthen test not blood tests (he had the short and long versions), the first we knew that his adrenals had packed up were when he caught a stomach bug and became very, very unwell.
