avoiding winter bugs

So the winter months are looming and every Christmas I am poorly with either a chest infection or the flu. Apart from having my flu vaccination this year has anyone got any tips how to avoid the dreaded winter lurgy Sad . I've look after myself and I make sure the children wash their hands after toilet, before food etc but theres only so much you can do. I eat healthy and only drink alcohol once a week but already I'm feeling rubbish with sore throat and shivery. I've heard a spoonful of turmeric can help with colds and stuff so might put that on my shopping list. Is there anything you swear by that helps through these months.

Wash your hands every time you come back into the house and wear gloves on trains, buses and when using escalators or stairs in shops etc.

Good diet
Fresh Air
Hand wash times fifty million
Probiotics
Vitamins

I swear by First Defence nasal spray. First sign of feeling like you may be coming down with something, spray up each nostril.

Wash your hands when you come home, don't touch your face when you're out and about.

missionofmercy · 30/11/2018 20:08

Echo the washing of hands immediately you come back indoors. Avoid touching anywhere on your face before hand washing. Sounds a bit over the top, but it does help.

I never open a door or push a button on a lift or anything except with my sleeve pulled over my hand. I know...... but anyway.

Other than that, stay indoors and go into isolation! lol.

I do the sleeve over my hand trick. Never touch handles, flushes etc.
Wash hands a million times.
Good diet and lots of sleep.

Thanks for all your tips, I also never touch handles, doors etc with my hands. Think I'll have a look at nasal defence I've heard of that before. Ohh if only I could get enough sleep, think that's half the problem with me I just don't get enough, I'm only getting about 4 hours a night Confused it's rubbish.

We all wash our hands as soon as we get in even if we’ve just popped to the local shop and been out for 20 minutes.

I get the kids to change out of their school uniforms when they get it from school and wash them after one wear (here usually grubby anyway so no big deal)

A really good probiotic can help. Optibac are a good brand.

Blow your nose regularly to clear out anything lurking and drink lots of water.

Apart from a good diet, including lots of fruit and veg, I swear by echinacea at the first sign of a cold. It really seems to stop them dead in their tracks.
