Which tablets were you given?

There are several medications you could try - tranexamic acid, mefenamic acid, naproxen. If the ones you tried didn't help, go back to the doc and ask to try something else.

tranexamic acid thats the one, couldnt remember the name, she just kept mentioning the mirena coil but as im long term single i dont want anything like that (especially as im too scared of them putting it in) will go back to the dr and ask for different medication thanks.

I've been there and have now been on norethisterone for 12 years and haven't had a period in all that time. Mine were so heavy I couldn't leave the house so I needed a solution that acted fast so I could work.

Recent they tried to take me off and force me to have the coil but I do not want that inside and it can take up to 6 months to work.

I hope you can get sorted and you have my full sympathies

Before you consider any kind of hormonal intervention or resign yourself to long term use of medication, I'd push for some investigations as to the cause of the heavy bleeding. While some women just do have shit periods, you need to be referred to gynae to check for fibroids and other conditions. Endometriosis is perhaps another possibility? Hormonal imbalances can also cause heavy bleeding (as well as aforementioned conditions) and are often treated with synthetic hormones (or alternatively be controlled/improved by lifestyle/diet changes). Has GP discussed a referral? If you're not taking iron supplements already, def do it! Low iron and ferritin (iron stores) are a real problem with heavy periods and I have read that the lower your levels, the heavier the bleeding (tho not sure if that's anecdotal). Aim to get a diagnosis then do some research to help you decide on the best course of action.
Non stop heavy periods are dismal, you totally have my sympathies! X

I would as Ellen suggests try and properly determine what the actual cause of the heaviness of periods is rather than resign yourself to a Mirena or pills (neither of which you seem to want). Finding the cause is just as important as well as treating the symptoms.

Has GP talked about a referral, if not this is a subject that needs to be raised. Fibroids is a common cause of heavy periods as is endometriosis. Both should be looked into with a gynaecologist. You need a referral first and foremost to such a person.
