Physical health issue or anxiety

I do have a history of anxiety and depression which is not currently medicated as I am not depressed. I have been having some palpitations, butterflies in tummy, itchy, early waking etc - quite physical anxiety symptoms. GP is very keen to treat this as a return of anxiety symptoms although my anxiety has always been less physical in the past and more mental worry.
Is it possible that there is a physical cause to all this and this is overlooked but the 'it must be anxiety' approach?

I am now genuinely anxious about having a physical health condition which has been missed.

Any thoughts or will my GP just laugh if I go back again. He is not very approachable.

In my experience I think it’s the anxiety.

I’ve had similar symptoms for a few months, brought on after a genuine illness. But then I got so anxious about the symptoms of the illness that I created symptoms myself. I’ve also had a hard year in general and I think physically it has taken its toll.

Lately I’ve been prescribed beta blockers which take the edge off the physical effects (racing heart, sweats, light headed, nausea and stomach pains) but don’t affect mood or thoughts.

Maybe you could give something like that a try. But you could try pushing for blood tests if you’re really concerned

I had a blood test and it didn't have anything significant on it.

I can feel my heart. My heart rate according to fitbit has actually gone down significantly recently.

What if something is missed just because of a history of anxiety.

As with anything you won’t know until you try the treatment to eliminate possible causes,

If you go back to the gp and they suggest medication for anxiety, try taking that and see if things improve. If they don’t then go back and they can try something else.

If your gp is no good then you can request to see a different one. Some are definitely better at helping with mental health than others.
