I had irregular periods at that age too - sometimes months and months in between. The 'not knowing when' was not nice.

If you haven't already done so, maybe discuss with your doctor? (Sorry if you've already discussed and had investigations)

Take care. Smile

bittersweeet · 26/11/2018 11:52

@MollyHuaCha they've always been really irregular, last year I has only 3 periods, this year ive only had one, I've an appointment on the 11th of December to the gynaecologist so hopefully I'll get some answers x

@bittersweeet, mine stopped at one point for 2 full years, turned out it was related to other medication that I was on.

Are you on anything, prescribed, vitamins, supplements, diet plan, illegal substances, heavy alcohol or binge drinker? Just trying to put it together.

Is your BMI healthy? if you are underweight or obese, it can also affect them to the point of stopping.

Are you having any pelvic pain, other symptoms, any discharge? Any other symptoms tender breasts? (although you know you aren't pregnant), nausea, bloatedness,

Also keep a list of all symptoms (otherwise) for gynae, I know how it is as my periods over the past 4 years up until May this year, were all over the place, I was having 2 a year at most, then it regulated itself, with no changes being made (my weight was the same, meds were the same, I need them on a day to day basis)

Also when I would be willing mine on, sometimes I found if I went out of the house for a walk with white jeans/trousers on, it would come - black jeans/trousers didn't have the same effect but the white always seemed to get stained whereas black/blue didn't. Sod's law

Good luck and hope the gynae is helpful

Have they given you a diagnosis for back, hip and pelvic pain?

I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and I should add I am not a medic of any sort but have a shopping list of conditions myself I'm going to guess endometriosis.

Its where you said you have been trying to get answers since you were 15/16 and so that's 7/8 years, that rings the bell with me. www.endometriosis-uk.org/endometriosis-symptoms

That could account for the back, pelvic and into hip pain depending on where the endo is and referred pain. It takes average 7-10 years to get a diagnosis.

The classic endometriosis symptoms include:
Painful, heavy, or irregular periods (1-2 a year is def irregular)
Pain during or after sex
Painful bowel movements
Fatigue

Does any of that sound familiar? There are other symptoms listed on that link which may ring bells with you.

Have a look at their stuff and use it to ask tons of questions, also has GP done bloods etc for you. As if you look at these 3 links, you will see they could be revealing in themselves but not all are covered on a basic screen unless the GP specifically requests them,

Hope your appointment goes well and ask any further questions or anything you like.

I would certainly push for answers and at the very least you need up to date blood tests and an internal ultrasound done to see if your ovaries are indeed polycystic.

I was eventually diagnosed with both endometriosis (that was the root cause of the pains) and PCOS (that was the root cause of the absence of periods). Periods have always been irregular since onset of menses.

Irregular periods can often be caused by hormonal imbalances; in this respect a condition called polycystic ovaries or PCOS (its related syndrome) are common culprits. Another possible cause could be problems with the thyroid gland.

If you do not already do so, keep a daily pain and symptom diary and show this to the gynae. You need a diagnosis first and foremost.

bittersweeet · 03/12/2018 10:39

@smurfy2015 I will definitely look at the link, the only pain is get really is hip pain during and after sex, they've done X-rays on my hips and keep telling me they can't see anything wrong so they shouldn't be hurting, i know that when I do finally have my period it's the most horrific pain, I had bloods taken a few months ago and Everything came back normal 🤔, I get hot flushes all the time now which is annoying.

@AttilaTheMeerkat

I had bloods done a few months ago for thyroid, hormones and something else but can't remember now but they came back all fine though? I think I have my internal Ultrasound on the 11th of December so I hope I get some answers then, I've been keeping a log of symptoms and anything else for the last few months
