Any experience of meningitis in adults?

DP has been feeling unwell since 5pm yesterday. I wouldn't be too concerned but one of his symptoms is a stiff neck which I know is associated with meningitis.

No rash. No vomiting. No temperature.

Just general aches all over, feeling "unwell", slept most of the day today, and the stiff neck since midday. Intermittently hot and cold. Cold feet, hot face.

Does this sound like anything to be concerned about?

He is loathe to call 111 as he's still embarrassed from a time that he had chest pain and went to A&E only to be told it was nothing...

Could you call 111 to see if he could see OOH today?

I remember reading that not being able to touch chin to chest is a red flag. I think I’d make him see a doctor.

LittleMe03 · 25/11/2018 15:13

I still think you need to call 111 OP if he cannot touch chin to chest

Thanks, Panda. I'd call 111 if I were you.

Glad he's feeling a little bettter but jsut in case, this is on the meningitis now website. It's the signs & symptoms to watch for.

Says 'someone with meningitis or septicaemia can get a lot worse very quickly. Keep checking them'

DragonFire, I'm sorry too. The same happened to my dad, he never regained consciousness either. Heartbreaking. Don't take any chances if you suspect for one moment it could be meningitis
