Intense jaw pain lead to migraine

I used to have migraines when I was younger but haven't for a long time now. I used to get blurred vision before the pain started so I knew when they were coming.

Today I was going about my morning and I suddenly with no warning got this really intense jaw pain, the only way I can describe it was like all the muscles has cramped up so tight including my tongue which I couldn't move properly and my throat which felt swollen when I swallowed. After about 10 minutes the pain went round to the back of my neck and skull and was as intense and painful as my migraines used to be.

I shut myself in a dark room and was okay after a couple of hours and some sleep but my neck is still quite sore.

Has anyone had a migraine start this way before?

The jaw, tongue and throat thing really worried me to the point I was about to try and get hold of my partner at work to see if he could take me to the emergency out of hours but fortunately it stopped within 10 mins and then it was just the migraine afterwards.

I'm really worried about it happening again.

Google TMJ. Could be that

My migraines are often linked to teeth clenching and TMJ. I have to wear a mouth guard at night to help, and they always start with a pain in my jaw/cheek. Sometimes though, it can be referred neck pain so it may be worth having a trip to a good physio as I've reduced the frequency of my migraines since visiting a physio.

So I guess you could work out whether you are teeth grinding/clenching and also whether you have tension in your neck and shoulders? Or in my case, both!

Perhaps your pain is related to the teeth.
