Heart attack and meds

Is it normal for ramipril to make you you feel dizzy and lethargic?
My husband had a heart attack on Nov 1st (whilst we were away in Belgium) and had a stent fitted within 6 hrs. They started him on meds there. Since we have come home he has found that the medication is making him dizzy, feeling faint on times and very lethargic.
Ramipril has been reduced in two weeks from 5mg to 2.5 to 1.25mg.
We are still waiting to see a cardiologist over here. We were referred by GP on 5th Nov.

Im sorry I don't know op ,but I had to reply as last year my healthy 22 year old dd died suddenly to a heart condition.
I would take no chances with these symptoms & be seeking medical advice immediately.

We have and they don't think it is the meds. I will see how he is and make a decision in the morning.
I am sorry for your loss. I hope I haven't upset you by posting. 💐
My husband is 52 and cycled and walked daily. A shock to say the least.

Not at all Op ,you haven't upset me .
With all we've been through I'm now very aware of heart conditions in children & adults & have been trying to raise awareness.
My dd was also very fit & active which we now know made her high risk for her undiagnosed condition.
Go with your gut & don't hesitate to call for assistance or take him to be checked if you are at all worried & feel it's needed .
I hope he sorted & feels better soon ,it's worrying I know Thanks

Thanks. Had a bad few months as I broke my leg/ankle in September so with this on top I have only just gone back to work. However work can wait if he needs to go to hospital. X

I'm on Ramipril 2.5mgs but for viral myocarditis with ensuing severe LVF. No sign of cardiovascular disease.
It made me very lethargic and tired and really lowered my BP (that was already low!) until my body adjusted to it - it took about three months before I started feeling less exhausted. My Cardiologist said it was the medication causing it - am also on Bisophorol, Frusimide, Spironolactone, statins and aspirin (I rattle!)
Hopefully your Dh will quickly recover.

Yes these are common side effects of ramipril - you can check the leaflet in the pack to see the list. But that’s not to say your DH doesn’t need to be seen by a doctor, because he’s clearly not tolerating even the low doses. There are alternatives to try. Hope he feels better soon.

Dontsweathesmallstuff · 20/11/2018 22:04

They are normal side effects but don't hesitate to get in touch with the gp if you think its necessary.

Also bear in mind that its still early days and feeling tired/lethargic is also perfectly normal after a heart attack. It could well be weeks/months before he starts to feel normal.

There are other medications he could take if ramapril doesnt suit. I changed from ramapril to enalapril and tolerate that much better. (i was told ramapril is often prescribed initially as its a cheaper option).

I'm a cardiac nurse in the USA- yes that Rx can have that side effect however it can also be a side effect of heart disease and cardiac dysfunction so he needs to get back to his doctor to discuss it and have his symptoms reviewed.

My dh has a ha 2 weeks ago and isn’t in all those things. He’s only on statins and beta blockers. But he didn’t need a stent. Hope your husband feels better soon. I heard the beta blockers can affect mood. Hope not
