Does homeopathy work?

Hi, I live in the USA where homeopathy is not that popular. I have heard it is more commonly used in the UK. I just started working with a classical homeopathic doctor ( via Skype) who put me on my first ever constitutional remedy. My main health concern is a chronic lyme disease co infection ( babesia) which affects my breathing.
( I am also treating with herbs, have had this for years and it comes and goes in severity- currently flared up ). this is my first time trying homeopathy. I am about 25 days in. the homeopath told me to expect 10-20% improvement in 6 weeks, 50% improvement 3 months later, and full recovery in one to two years.
One weird thing is he didn't seem to believe my illness was tick-borne. But he said with homeopathy it doesn't matter what the cause of it is, it treats the whole body anyway.

So I am wondering if any of you have used classical homeopathy- where they give you one constitutional remedy, which is supposed to heal your whole body.
I am not sure yet if I notice improvement. I feel slightly better than before I started but nothing remarkable. I would love it if it works and so I am looking to hear experiences other people have had using it.
Thank you

No.

PurpleDaisies · 18/11/2018 15:08

It only works by the placebo effect.

PurpleDaisies · 18/11/2018 15:10

But he said with homeopathy it doesn't matter what the cause of it is, it treats the whole body anyway.

It doesn’t matter what the cause is because it has no active ingredient.

SinkGirl · 18/11/2018 15:11

There is absolutely no evidence that it does anything. None whatsoever.
Placebo effect is one thing, but if that’s all you get then better to convince yourself that something free will cure you.

People talk about the profiteering of big pharma, but these people make a lot of money, believe me

CerysCindy · 18/11/2018 15:14

Funding on the NHS was stopped because it was agreed the treatment was at best a placebo. Don't waste your money!

Madratlady · 18/11/2018 15:14

No. It has no active ingredients, so there is no mechanism by which it could possibly work. the placebo effect is proven to exist though, that’ll be what you’re feeling.

giveitfive · 18/11/2018 15:15

It's total bullshit. Find something else to help you.

IHaveBrilloHair · 18/11/2018 15:15

No, it can't possibly work.

redsummershoes · 18/11/2018 15:16

it doesn't work.
it only contains water/sugar/alkohol (depending on which preparation/solution)
thd placebo effect, however, is very powerful.

gassylady · 18/11/2018 15:17

No it doesn’t work. Try searching internet for “homeopathy suicide protest” many protestors simultaneously took the highest strength ie most dilute! Of one preparation - nothing happened

Moreisnnogedag · 18/11/2018 15:18

Nope. Not anything more than a placebo peddled by snake oil merchants. I honestly don’t give a crap if it was used as an adjunct but it’s when they advise people to stop their evidence based medicine that I get pissed off

Ohyesiam · 18/11/2018 15:20

Ha, loving these replies so far, I’m a tree hugger with different views!
I’ve seen homeopathy work on babies who can’t really do placebo....
it also dealt effectively with my ex partner’s long term health problem that years of orthodox treatment and several hospitalisation couldn’t help, he’s now a well man.

redsummershoes · 18/11/2018 15:25

babies don't.
but their parents certainly do!
that's why they also 'work' on pets.

redsummershoes · 18/11/2018 15:27

on the other hand: my parents 'treated' my allergic asthma with homoepathetic sugar pills.
it didn't work and I'm left with permanent lung damage.

bringbackthestripes · 18/11/2018 15:31

It really isn’t commonly used in the UK.
Save your money.

I had one experience when modern medicine failed. Homeopathy worked. Whether that was coincidental or not I’m not sure. I didn’t think it would work.
I also took aloe Vera for a terrible stomach problem and that got rid of it and it hasn’t returned.

CerysCindy · 18/11/2018 16:10

A baby who cant do placebo. WTF does that mean?

CerysCindy · 18/11/2018 16:11

HermioneWeasley · 18/11/2018 16:27

It “works” in the sense it may activate your body’s placebo effect, but it has no active ingredient so isn’t medicine in any way.

GrammarTeacher · 18/11/2018 16:28

No

WorldParty · 18/11/2018 16:33

It only works by magic if you believe in magic
The belief it that water has a memory. The active substance is diluted so much there is nothing left then the waters memory is triggered by hitting it with, I think, a willow stick. It also involves a special person jumping round 3x or some such bollocks
When dealing with babies or pets the placebo works in the parent/owner because they are looking for change. Paying for something also increases the placebo effect

As a young teenager I ended up in hospital with a Quinsey because my tonsillitis was 'treated' by a homeopath, instead of with antibiotics, which I then had pumped into my body for five days.
I have however used it to wean myself off sleeping aids and it helped with that, probably because it was a psychological issue and the act of taking a pill helped me sleep.
