Longer period than usual

I've also posted in women's health but thought I'd post here too as it's a bigger audience.
My periods have always been pretty regular until around 18 months - 2 years ago where they disappeared for awhile and then come and go as they please.
I have mefenamic acid to take for the pain on the first and second day of my period which is when it's the worst. I also use them if a headache gets unbearable which will usually delay my period by around 5 days or so. I took 2 of the mefs for a headache around 2 weeks before I was due on but this time it delayed it by over 2 weeks! My periods tend to last around 5 days. The first signs of my period was when the yuk brown stuff you get at the end shows up, I had this for around 5 days before blood started to show. It's now day 14 of this 'period' since the brown discharge and I've had low pain period pain most of the day but also starting to feel dizzy with it now.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what it was?

Mine have gone weird but I'm going through the perimenopause. Could this be a possibility with you.

That was my initial thought. I'm early 30s and it seems there's a history of menopause happening towards mid to late 30s.

You have just reminded me that BC I had to take strong pain meds an it always screwed with my period, so I would try to avoid them, and now I really wonder what that's all about! It really was a thing, but I'd forgotten about it as after DC I really didn't need any pain meds any more.

I think far too little public or maybe even scientific knowledge about the in depth workings of the feminine to be able to explain this phenomenon. Maybe someone will be along with some specialist knowledge. It also happened when I had to have a steroid injection too, each time I was a couple of weeks late.

The only way you will know about the menopause is having bloods done to test your levels rising on set days, and your overall oestrogen level.

Book one with your gp, especially as family history of it as you might want to make decisions about managing that if that's the case

For years my periods lasted about 8 or 9 days. The first few days were always very light, coming and going, really annoying.

Then I had my cervix cauterised because I had a mild cervical ectropion. Since then my periods are completely different: they come on suddenly, get heavy really quickly, and are a few days shorter.

I think that the bleeding I used to have at the start of my period was actually my cervix bleeding due to the pressure/swelling from the imminent period.

Maybe think about getting your cervix checked.
