Endometriosis?

Ollivander84 · 16/11/2018 17:26

Slightly TMI. I've always had heavy periods, and pain in back/down thighs with them
Javelin bum pain - also diarrhoea/upset tummy before period
Recently I've noticed I will need the loo, and I can't go because the pain of having a bowel movement is like javelin bum pain. When I go, the pain stops
Conceiving - first time, not even while technically fertile period and he withdrew Hmm

Any ideas?
I'm at the GP in a week for a knee problem and wondering whether to mention it. I mean being in so much pain having a poo can't be right!

Hey,

I had endometriosis diagnosed this year.

I have been lucky to a certain extent it’s only this year I started to get symptoms (I’m 28 now).

One thing I have had over the years which I thought was normal was javelin arse on my period. It used to be agony going to the toilet for a number 2. But that was my only symptoms, never had painful periods or particularly heavy.

The only way they can diagnose is through a laparoscopy so it’s up to you whether you want to put yourself through the surgery. The diagnostic lap is a very minor procedure through and it will give you a diagnosis xx

I might mention it to her. Yeah it's so painful but then instant relief when I go!

It all depends where your endo deposits are if you do have endo. I used to think I would pass out when going to the toilet.

When I had a laparoscopy for suspected endo, it was on my bowel meaning that any bowel movements would be painful.

Yes endo is confirmed with laparoscopy but if you go with endo symptoms they try the medication route first because it is cheaper. The only reason I ended up with the lap and dye procedure was because I finally qualified for private health care through work.

Before that I was on pure progesterone for months and months, then a chemical menopause for 6 months with HRT medication. I was 27 with 10+ years worth of going to the GP with painful periods.

I would read up on endo "treatments" on endometriosis-uk.org/ just so you are aware of your options.

It is shit, and no you shouldn't put up with that kind of pain every month. So yes I would mention it to your GP. Good luck.

The pain the other day was about 3 days before my period. Seems to be bad before and during whenever I go to the toilet
It's hard because I do get constipated as I'm on opiates after spinal surgery last year
But it's not that I'm constipated, I want to go but am physically stopping myself because of the pain!

Ii would speak to a GP. Dont be surprised if they know little about endo and you have to push.

I posted on the constipation thread the other day about how taking high-dose probiotics had really helped me become more regular.

I have endo, and used to get the javelin bum pains when I pooed too, but just thinking about it now I haven't had them for ages.

So maybe the (TMI!) better regularity and softer consistency of my poos has helped? I take the probiotic at night before bed and now poo every morning when I wake up!

Sounds very similar to my symptoms - particularly the javelin bun pain. My pain got so bad I collapsed in the shower. The dr referred me for scans, but it didn't show up, it did show polycystic ovaries, but apparently that shouldn't cause the pain I was in. A few months later I saw a consultant privately who was 99% sure I had endo based on my description of the symptoms and pattern alone. I decided not to have the investigative tests as I also have fibromyalgia and didn't want to take more time off work. My pain is now controlled pretty well with the contraceptive pill, and I take Mefemnic Acid when it's my time of the month. My cousin has sever endo and has had to have multiple operations to try and control it - has really had to battle for them despite being in debilitating pain most of the time.

Funnily enough I also conceived in my first month of trying.

Ollivander84 · 22/11/2018 08:35

Asked the GP, she said it's fairly normal. Offered tran or mefa (can't spell them!) acid but I've had both before with no joy
Apart from that she said going back on the pill and that's about all I can do

Sorry you're experiencing this. I had stage 4 endo but my only symptoms were nausea (identical to morning sickness feeling), difficulty conceiving and brown blood between periods. No pain so I feel fortunate. Mine was (unusually I think) diagnosed via a private internal ultra sound when I was being investigated for infertility. The doctor could see and feel that my ovaries were stuck down and could also see endo in the pouch of Douglas. I then had surgery (privately) to remove it and appreciate how lucky I was to have the funds available.
