Seasonal allergies or something else?

For the last fortnight (at least) I have been suffering from hay fever type symptoms - runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes, scratchy throat and now sinus pain, headache and wheezing (making my asthma worse).

In the summer, if I get hay fever when pollen count is particular high, I take Loratadine, which works well (I can’t take cetrizine as it makes me drowsy). It’s doing pretty much nothing now.

Is anyone else suffering at the moment? Is there anything else I can take? I hate nasal sprays, but starting to think I may need to try one.

Yep, worse this week, but I know in my case it's dustmite allergy. For years I though I suffered from hay fever until I got tested medically. I do have an allergy to grass some trees but the.ig one is xustmite and I have to take antihistamine daily.

Dustmite allergies are known to be worse when it gets humid but still warm and leaves are falling, so in the Autumn. This week, the daily antihistamine is not enough and I'll have to swap them for the three a day one.

Sorry you’re suffering too, swingofthings

Yes, pharmacist yesterday suggested a three a day one but then didn’t have any in stock and I’ve not had chance to get to another today. Will look for some tomorrow. Might try a medicinal g&t this evening. Wink

Hope the g&t helped! I'm better this morning than I was yesterday although the feeling drained is there. What helps also is the beconase spray. It is steroids but totally safe as not passing through the blood barrier. It is available over the counter. You can take it with antihistamine.

Sadly it takes a few days/week to kick in. When I'm OK, I only use it once a week or so, but now realise I need to go back to twice daily. I think it should get better when the cold front hits and kills some of those nasty mites!

I am still suffering, and the three a day antihistamines have just made me feel drowsy and drugged. I might have to try a nasal spray, although my nose currently feels sore in one nostril, so might have to wait until that clears.

Maybe the colder weather coming this week will help? hopeful

Mould spores and cold damp weather. It kills me. My eyes suffer greatly.

Also back on antihistamines 3x a day.

DD 10 has dustmite, suffers terribly in the turn of season summer to autumn, she has been prescribed a nasal spray, Beclometasone, previous antihistamines no longer effective. Seems to have turned a comer last few days and appears better.
