Hi for a long time I've been able to hear/feel my heart thumping away but recently as I lie down in bed it feels like my heart is going to burst out my chest. It only gets like that when I get into bed. No pain with it or anything just generally I feel quite warm when it happens. I hate going to the doctor's so was wondering if anyone has experiences of palpatations or similar. Does this sound normal or is it palpatations and would it be best to get it checked out? I've never yet noticed it do this through the day.

Are you having enough salt in your diet? Same thing happened to a friend! Went to a heart specialist .. everythg fine .. told to increase salt in her diet .. she'd excluded it from meals thinking she was having a healthier diet!

Are you on any medication? I've recently noticed this and like you at night when watching TV or when I'm in bed. But as I've just been put on blood pressure tablets I guess that's the reason as it is listed as a side effect. Apparently can be quite common and normal but if they persist a visit to your GP would be a good idea.

How old are you? This can be very common during peri-menopause.

I get this, same thing, really noticeable when I get into bed, though it happens at other times. I had all the tests and nothing wrong. I'm peri-menopausal. I still think you should get it checked out!

Thanks everyone. I'm 34 and not on any medication. If it keeps happening I think I'll go to gp. I suppose it's better to eb safe than sorry.

Hello I've had this all this today all day ,very uncomfortable. They usually only last a few minutes but it's getting annoying now.I'm 43 so maybe it is perimenopause .

It could be SVT, I had this experience initially from my last pregnancy, but have had a few episodes since. Almost like it beats hard and fast.

One trick the cardiologist told me to do was to cough, that sort of kickstarts the heart back into rhythm!

Obviously get checked out, your GP can do an ECG and refer you if necessary.

Mine is hormonal and ectopic beats which are annoying but liveable!
