Help, I am freaking out. DS has got excema on his arms which is very sore and raw at the moment so both he and I (I have really bad excema) are trying a wheat free diet. Anyway I noticed what looked like cradle cap on his scalp so last night rubbed in olive oil and left it on over night. Washed his hair this morning and when he was going to sleep on me I noticed that several of the very large skin flakes had come loose only when I went to brush them out of his hair two large clumps of hair fell out! I was too worried to do anymore, so I've made a dr's appointment for this afternoon. Hope I am overeacting, but I'm really worried that he's losing the hair in the patches where the dry skin is (I have had this before, but only very slightly).

Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice would be gladly taken. DS is 2 by the way.

Hi, my DD is 6 and she still suffers from cradle cap and has a small bald patch on the top of her head where the cradle cap has come off, taking the hair with it. It has started to grow back though and my hairdresser said it wouldn't be permanent. My DD also gets eczema so there is possibly a link between cradle cap and eczema.

Hope you get on ok at the docs - let me know what he says. There is a steroid scalp application - my doctor gave it to DD a year or so ago but it stings her and didn't really achieve much.

Thank you. More hair has come away with the scaly patches since he got up. Litterally as the patch comes away it seems to take a clump of hair with it. Will let you know how we get on. I keep panicking he's going to end up bald.

Love the name by the way. Are you from the new forest? Or did you choose it for other reasons?!

It will grow back, don't worry. I used to see little clumps of DDs hair all over the house, with cradle cap attached, poor love. It is horrible isn't it.

Meant to say earlier, how long have you been on this wheat-free diet and is it helping? I also get eczema and find that avoiding bread helps a lot. Pasta seems to be ok for some reason. It must be very difficult to completely eliminate wheat.

I don't live in New Forest, wish I did! - just holiday down there a lot. We're off to Sandy Balls on Friday actually, can't wait!

A couple of months ago DS came out in what I was told was excema but it didn't look like it to me. My brother has coeliacs and dermatits herpetiformis so that's why we tried gluten free originally then after 2 weeks the excema had gone so we tried him on gluten again and it took about 2-3 weeks for patches of excema to start coming back, but this looks like a different type to what he had previously. However we are on day 10 of the gf diet and this time it doesn't seem to be making a difference so it's looking like it was just coincidence the first time.

My excema is looking a lot better though, but again that may just be coincidence as it gets a bit better and then worse constantly. I did dairy free for a month once and that definately made a difference, but I missed chocolate too much!

Hi, the doctor said that it is normal for the hair to come out with the scaly skin. She said there wasn't anything she could give him for that, but to carry on with what I was doing. She has prescribed him hydrocortisone, dermol and oilatum for the excema on his arms.

Thanks for letting me know about your daughter, it really calmed me down today when I was panicking.

Hope you have a lovely holiday.
