Poor you, they are rotten - have you been to the docs yet? I used to suffer a lot; I get them occasionally now (usually at the start of a period) and was prescribed Zomig, and I've managed to avoid a migraine ever since.

could you get yourself to an osteopath?
I suffered migraines for years, on average one every two months, each lasting between 5 and 24 hours. Since I saw the ostepath about 5 years ago, they have dwindled to nothing. Immediately I went 6 months without one and the gaps got bigger and bigger until I now cant remember when I had the last one.
They should be able to help you with the one you're dealing with right now but of course, bank holiday weekend, who knows when you'd get an appointment.
Sorry cant be more help. You have my full sympathy.

I've had migraines for many years and there are plenty of things that can help, Mummy2J. If you can't see a more helpful Dr, have you tried asking a good pharmacist what they recommend? My dd also gets them and finds Migraleve very good indeed.

Acupuncture can help - you can do a bit of acupressure on yourself right now, if you wish. First, locate a very slightly tender spot on your hand, in the fleshy area between thumb and first finger. Then massage it gently and it may help lift the headache. There is a similar spot on the leg, at the side and just below the knee, sort of at the knobbly bit. Again, you've hit the mark if it's slightly tender to touch. You might also find some handy tips on the Migraine Association website. Hth.

The heb Feverfew is supposed to be good, but don't know much about it as I always use Migralieve and avoid raw onion, red wine and bright lights in the first place! Have you tried keeping a food diary to see what might be triggering it off?

Sorry, HERB!!

I used to get one every 2 months and would be very sick etc with them. I found Migraleave pink tablets helped ease the severity of them. Since I stopped taking the pill 4 years ago I havent had one since. Could yours be due to something similar.

Another vote for Migraleve!

Incidentally, I went away for the weekend a while ago & developed a migraine during the journey. All I could find in my bag was the yellow tablets so I took them. I asked later in the chemist what the difference was (because by that time everyone had sold out of the pink!) & they said the painkiller is the same, but the pink ones include an anti-nausea drug as well.

Just in case anyone else was wondering

mckenzie · 29/08/2004 09:50

that is interesteing Tallulah - I often used to get caught witht eh wrong colour tablets and wonder what woudl happen if I took them. Now I know - thank you.

alibubbles · 29/08/2004 10:34

I use Zomig nasal spray, it is brilliant. It works very quickly. I started to use this after I had been in hopital for my kidney op, as I kept throwing up all the tablets. My migraines are like jodee's - pre menstrual, and have got far worse since I ghad a Mirena coil put in.
