Back pain.

Evening all, in early 2008, I had a fall, which resulted in me looking to spend the rest of my life with back pain. From the outset, I was given painkillers, Co-codamol, Di-hydrocodeine, Pregabalin, Gabapentin, Tramadol and Fentanyl patches, the only thing that worked for me was Tramadol, but, in the last year, I'm getting less and less relief. I wasn't on the Fentanyl very long, as they made me a bit aggressive and with having two kid under 10, it was a easy decision to stop taking them and go back onto Tramadol.
I'm at the point now, were, on some days, I'm having to take the prescribed amount of 8 per day, with no relief at all. It's causing me a great deal of anguish and at times I cannot function.
My personal life is dire and my relationship is suffering, the pain is so bad, I cannot cope with the attention my loving girlfriend is showing me. I know it's hurting her and a great disappointment to me as I cannot perform, I even suffer great pain during ejaculation and going for a pee.
Does anyone else have the same issues?
Ironically, if anyone else is watching 8 out of 10 cats does Countdown at this time, I've just got a 7 letter word, opiates!

I was hoping someone else would answer this as I don't have actual experience of this although back pain is now my specialist subject sadly (11 years post op). Firstly I am shocked at the drugs some doctors throw at this. Surely it would be better to start on co-codamol and built up slowly if things get worse. I can't get anything other than codeine (UK) so I'm never going to have this problem. From what I can gather talking to others is that the effects do wear off and some brave souls have gone "cold turkey" so they can start again with better pain relief. Sorry I have no good news for you - this sucks!

I did start on codeine, but it wasn't suitable for me, it was then I was put onto stronger meds.

Codeine is an opiate drug used to treat mild to moderately severe pain.It is one of the most heavily prescribed drugs in the United States and it is available over-the-counter in the UK.
