Back pain.

Evening all, in early 2008, I had a fall, which resulted in me looking to spend the rest of my life with back pain. From the outset, I was given painkillers, Co-codamol, Di-hydrocodeine, Pregabalin, Gabapentin, Tramadol and Fentanyl patches, the only thing that worked for me was Tramadol, but, in the last year, I'm getting less and less relief. I wasn't on the Fentanyl very long, as they made me a bit aggressive and with having two kid under 10, it was a easy decision to stop taking them and go back onto Tramadol.
I'm at the point now, were, on some days, I'm having to take the prescribed amount of 8 per day, with no relief at all. It's causing me a great deal of anguish and at times I cannot function.
My personal life is dire and my relationship is suffering, the pain is so bad, I cannot cope with the attention my loving girlfriend is showing me. I know it's hurting her and a great disappointment to me as I cannot perform, I even suffer great pain during ejaculation and going for a pee.
Does anyone else have the same issues?
Ironically, if anyone else is watching 8 out of 10 cats does Countdown at this time, I've just got a 7 letter word, opiates!

I was hoping someone else would answer this as I don't have actual experience of this although back pain is now my specialist subject sadly (11 years post op). Firstly I am shocked at the drugs some doctors throw at this. Surely it would be better to start on co-codamol and built up slowly if things get worse. I can't get anything other than codeine (UK) so I'm never going to have this problem. From what I can gather talking to others is that the effects do wear off and some brave souls have gone "cold turkey" so they can start again with better pain relief. Sorry I have no good news for you - this sucks!

I did start on codeine, but it wasn't suitable for me, it was then I was put onto stronger meds.
