Has anyone decided not to give HPV vaccination in the last few years?

I am not madly keen on vaccinations per se but if they are necessary then my children will have them. My daughter is due to have the hpv vaccine soon. When I last looked into this several years ago there was a lot of bad news about this vaccine, its use was suspended albeit temporarily in some countries and you do not need to look very far to find accounts of tragic consequences for some. How much of this is true and what proportion of people it affects is a moot point.
Is there anyone on here that is knowledgeable on this subject and decided not to vaccinate their children with this vaccine? It is extremely difficult to make an informed decision; many articles may be scaremongering and I don’t think reading official sources is necessarily any better as they are only going to be pro vaccination. Happy to receive any constructive thoughts. Thanks very much.

My friend died a couple of years ago of extremely aggressive cervical cancer. She was 38. This vaccine might have prevented that.

Honestly, there isn’t a conspiracy around vaccines. They are about preventing serious, and totally unnecessary, disease.

To provide a little balance to those commenting on docs they know not giving the vaccine - we paid (not a small amount of money) for our son to be given the vaccine as it isn’t yet being offered to boys and he may well be outside the age range once they do start rolling it out to boys. We did this on the recommendation of many HCPs - docs, nurses, consultants, surgeons, speech therapists, nutritionists, radiographers etc etc.

You see - sometimes people get cancer even when they don’t have any of the risk factors - we know that from personal experience. If we can help prevent our son, or any of our daughters going through what we’ve been through with DH’s HPV-related head/neck cancer then we will

8 years ago I decided not to let my daughter have this vaccination, she had been fully vaccinated up to that point.

I discussed it with her and explained she could have it in the future if she chose and there were ways of cutting down the already small risk of HPV.

I'm really not sure that the benefits out weigh the risks with this one

I am currently undergoing treatment for cervical cancer, and wouldn't wish it on anyone. It's a source of comfort to me that my DD will be able to have this vaccination that I never had.

HPV is also linked to horrendous head and neck cancers. My son is having it in a couple of weeks as he isn't offered it on the NHS. Yet. I'm a doctor.

@Ichbinstoltz, what were the reasons your GP gave?

The notion that the MMR vaccine causes autism is laughable.
Dreamcatcher when you say you've done your own research, do mean science or do you mean YouTube?
Your ignorance about autism is annoying. Your ignorance about medicine is dangerous.

I have HPV, I've had a punch biopsy and 2 loop biopsies following smear tests, one at 23 so thank goodness it was before they raised the age. 15 yrs later I am back to 3 yearly tests...If the vaccine will protect my girls from that experience I am very pro.
