Anyone had the 24 hour heart monitor thing?

I've been referred for one. Should I be concerned?

I was hospitalised on Thursday after a nasty bout of what I think was noro (we all had it but my body just didn't really handle it). I had anti-emetics and fluids all day and went home in the evening. OK now but still tired and wobbly, eating very carefully! Don't have to go back to work till Tuesday luckily.

Over the day I had 3 ECGs - the first one was shortly after arrival when I was still shaking and hyperventilating. By the 3rd one I was asleep. They all showed a high heart rate and because my heart rate didn't resolve itself they have referred me to have one of those 24 hour monitoring things where I go about my day wearing a monitor.

They're not super concerned so I'm taking my cue from that and not worrying too much. Has anyone had one? What are they looking for? I work part time - should I do it on a work day? I'm 39 if that helps.

I've had one a few times, they're annoying but nothing troublesome. I dont know what you do for a living but I work in a school and just wore a baggy cardigan to cover the wires so as not to alarm the kids. Sleeping is ok, I ticked the machine out of the way and it didn't bother me much. It will check you heart rate over 24 hours and give you an idea of what's happening. I would imagine the noro would elevate your heart rate wouldn't it? I'm 42 and have had racing heart issues for a couple of years and it seems mine are hormonal. Hope that helps

I had one recently and a BP monitor as well. I found the heart monitor less intrusive that the bp one, it's smaller ad you hardly know you are wearing it. If you have a choice I would do it on one of your days off, you won't have to worry too much about the wires. They are checking the heart rate/function over the 24 hr while you are out and about and you should do your usual routine. Great and easy way of checking.

I had once whilst pregnant as my heart rate was through the roof. Only thing I found annoying was the tape that stuck everything together, kept peeling off and I had to eventually use my own sellotape! Sleeping wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Good luck!

I had one for 72hrs, it was fine.
I could disconnect it to shower and just wore it under my tee shirt clipped to my waistband.

I’ve had several.

My palpitations were found to be due to anaemia and Addison’s disease, which has now been treated with medication long term.

Thank you for the replies. I won't worry too much then! Yes I think a day off would be a good idea - I teach secondary so I suspect there is a big difference in my heart rate depending on whether I'm working or not!

I've had loads of them and the seven day ones too. The referral threshold is really low - there's nothing much wrong with mine, benign palpations.
