Calling all runners - Baby jogger - do you have one?

Hi - I have been thinking about investing in a baby jogger since my dd was born 11 months ago! However I've resisted temptation because we have a treadmill at home and I've managed to have a fairly decent run most days while dd has her morning hap. However, she's sleeping less during the day these days and has pretty much gone down to one long afternoon nap over the weekend, so I'm thinking it might be time to invest!!! That way, I can take her out while I run in the mornings or after tea - or even after lunch and she can nap in the buggy while I get a good long run! I just hate the feeling of losing my morning run time and at least if I have a jogger I'll have options. Evenings aren't a great option for me as dp and I like to sit down to eat as soon as dd is asleep at 7.30pm and have a couple of hours together before we turn in!
Anyway - I'd love to hear from any runners who have one before I commit. Would you recommend them? Was it worth the money? Do your dc's enjoy going out in them? TIA.

we have a Chariot stroller. Fab I find I don't need the front wheel to run, but DH prefers it. Also converts into a bike trailer.

I loved running with ds1, but it was hard as we were 2 floors up, and couldnt fit the jogger through the entrance door anyway Then when we had ds2, ds1 didnt want to go in a buggy, so we had a double jogger for about a month If you can leave it up somewhere, so you can literally just put the baby in and go, then I'd say get one. You have to adapt a bit though; I found it a funny height/position to have my arms.
FWIW, we put the boys to bed at 7-7.30, then dh sits in the kitchen and eats while I do my treadmill run, then we have about 30mins before we go to bed But its working well; at least we're finding time for me to run now. I've also started going out with my neighbour for short ones while he's milling about doing DIY in the evening. But he does shifts, and I much prefer it when I run AM before he goes to work. Better run, then I get the whole evening to myself too!

My baby jogger is now on 2nd child, very lightweight,i can easily get it in the boot of my VW Golf-but as for running forget it!

instead we have had off road, mountain walks!!
i couldnt manage to run and push the jogger at the same time

emat · 18/06/2007 14:21

notasheep-could you attach one of these ? It's a hands free attachment so you can move your arms and you push the buggy with your waist. It's attached by a belt so it doesn't shoot off when you're going downhill.

notasheep · 18/06/2007 14:26

looks a very good idea but my concern would be the hills round here(Wales)

emat · 18/06/2007 14:28

think of the size of your calves!!

notasheep · 18/06/2007 14:29

dp calls them cows!!!!!!!!!!

sar123 · 18/06/2007 15:09

Notasheep why no running as well as pushing - is it too heavy? We live in central london, so i run in Hyde Park and Regents Park which are both close by, no hills really but it certainly isn't completely flat!

Emat that thing looks like an instrument of torture!!!!

I have an original Baby Jogger (big wheels, fixed at front, one position only, brake etc)
I haven't used it much yet with DD due to my injuries but DS practically lived in it, even when he was going to pre-school. He loved it and I have really fond memories of doing the Triffic Trail in Trent Park him kicking his legs when I slowed down a bit going up hill . One of his first words was "faster".

If you are local to me and you'd like to borrow if for a week to see if you would use it you can.

rebelmum1 · 18/06/2007 15:15

hard to run and push at the same time i got a papouse and did hill walking instead

marathonmum · 18/06/2007 16:13

Ive got a single baby jogger and a double and have used them both lots.
The original Baby jogger designed speecially for running is the best. very light and easy to push whilst running. There are alot of hybrid type 3 wheelers out there that pretend to be "joggers" as well as everyday around town buggies. But they are often not up for the job as too heavy, or not stable enough.
Just any old 3 wheeler is not good enough. Invest in a Baby Jogger. I trained for the New York marathon in mine.

Check out ebay for bargains. They are quite a specialist market so they only appeal to a few. Hence they go quite cheaply on ebay.
You cant destroy them and they have a lifetime guaratee on the frame so second hand is a good option.
