Hideous stomach problems, now feeling really fed up

Have had hideous stomach problems for weeks and am so fed up of being sick.

Started with a bad bout of stomach acid, which I am prone to. However, this time it was so bad I couldn't keep anything down for a week and went to the doc. They gave me anti-sickness pills and proton pump inhibitors and I was able to eat for a couple of days but then started being sick again. My temp rocketed and I was vomiting bile for about 5 days. They were going to admit me to hospital but decided to try me one more time with anti-sickness pills and hope that I was able to take antibiotic pills and keep them down.

That worked, to an extent, but then I started getting awful stomach cramps. All symptoms seemed to point to sever gallstone issues, but I have already had my gallbladder out.

I have lost two dress sizes in 4 weeks and am still feeling sick and unable to eat or drink much. I'm feeling pretty weak and completely rubbish.

I am so so so fed up of feeling ill and I'm really not sure what more I can do, so I'm beginning to feel a bit sorry for myself.

Can somebody reassure me that one day I will wake up feeling fine again and it's just going to take a little while to feel better?

Fluffy a couple of us on here have posted about long lasting virus type stomach issues so I guess there is a particularly annoying form of this virus but in your case I would urge to see the GP again saying you are now worried about it. You probably will need to be admitted to check you out properly.

You can still have gallstones after a cholecystectomy.

Are you still taking the PPIs? These can take a few weeks to work properly. Also, some brands of omeprazole are better than others in terms of side effects. I find Losec is fine but the generic brand I got first didn't suit me at all. So you could try changing the brand of PPI and see if that helps, but you would need to give them 10 days to get used to them.

So I went back to the doctor as I developed some new symptoms and they sent me for an abdominal x ray and took lots of bloods.

Apparently there is a mass in my liver and they are organising an emergency scan to see what is going on but their working hypothesis is either auto-immune liver disease which has caused scarring, or cancer.

I am now freaking out - any idea how long the scan might take to organise or how long the results might be or what the next steps could be if either of those diagnoses are confirmed?

They said the scan could take up to two weeks but they'll try to get me in sooner and I've been sitting here all day waiting for the phone to ring - I can't take two weeks of just sitting here not knowing. :(

I don't have any helpful advice Fluffy but sending you a hug and Flowers.

I was in the same position as you with suspected ovarian cancer. I had a huge tumour which was taking up most of my abdomen. The day after a very pessimistic appointment with my consultant, I went to my GP and she prescribed a low-dose anti-depressant and valium to see me through until it kicked in.

It made a huge difference to being able to cope with the long process to diagnosis - scans, biopsy, surgery. Before, I was so worried I couldn't eat.

In my hospital, they met all the 2 week targets, but it does take time for a consultant radiologist to interpret your scans and they will probably have an MDT meeting to discuss the results.

In my case, everything was 'inconclusive' till I'd had surgery and the pathologist was able to examine the tumour in the lab. So I was v glad I had the medication to see me through.

It all worked out well in the end and, fingers crossed, you'll be as lucky as I was. Flowers

Went through a similar thing, pain in my side which went on and on and got worse. Finally had ultrasound and they saw a mass near my stomach. Had CT and it was actually attached to my pancreas. I remember the endless waiting, it was horrible. In the end I had surgery and it was stage 1 cancer, caught early thankfully so that I didn't have anymore treatment.

If you need to go to the GP and get anti depressants to help you through then absolutely do. All the best 💐

Thanks all. I'm finding the waiting really hard! I've got a phone appointment with the GP on Monday (she wants to see how I'm feeling and whether I've heard about an appointment) so I'll talk to her about whether there's anything she can give me - I may ask for some sleeping pills as I'm finding it really hard to sleep. I think she was hoping I'd have heard something by now but given that I haven't I think she'll ring them and chase up for me

Definitely ask for the diazepam if you are struggling with anxiety.
