Scald - would you go to the walk in centre?

This is so embarrassing. Was I the bath shaving legs and generally preening myself for first evening out in a while. Noticed bath water was a bit nippy so put the hot tap on just a dribble, bent forwards to turn it off and pulled it the wrong way putting scalding water full pelt onto my leg Shock

I got out, ran it under some cool water but top layer of skin came straight off, around thumb size. The surrounding skin is pretty red and blotchy Sad

Do you think I can just treat at home? OH gone out for some cling film and I'm all up for paracetamol/brufen and powering on out but googled in and it says on NHS website to seek medical advice if blistered. But feel a bit dramatic going to walk in centre for a small scald from the bath..

Most embarrassing thing is I'm a nurse and should probably know the answer to this question but surgical by background! Never done minor injuries, burns or A+E.... Blush

I've used a MIU a few times and they have been really good. Someone I know who had a large burn ended up at A&E but if it is a small area then I think MIU would be a good start.

May be older guidance but I thought if the area that is scalded is bigger than 50p than it should be seen.

Keep cold water on it now - needs to have cold water for at least 20 minutes but longer if you can.

Hope you are ok. What did you decide to do?

BatFacedOK · 28/10/2018 16:16

And for future, your water shouldn't be so hot that it can do this so turn down your thermostat a notch

Hiya. Thanks for replies Smile

I cleaned, cling filmed it and went out. The red wine I drank stopped it hurting Grin

It's looking ok today, just a bit raw where the skin came off but the surrounding area is fine. It's about 50p ish size so borderline for getting it seen to. I've cleaned it again today and put some aloe Vera round it.

Will get one of the Drs to have a look at work tomorrow and get some non adhesive dressings. I suspect I will have an ugly scab for a while and probably a scar.

Joke of it is, I've had a quote this week for some new taps because I hate the existing ones, always said they were too aggressive. We've not been in this house long but some of the plumbing is a bit questionable Hmm Never imagined my water could even get that hot!

I think the most important thing is keeping it as cle, but good idea about getting it checked.

It may be worth reducing the water temperature on your boiler.ean as possible
