Strange Rash

Had to take DD to A&E yesterday morning as she woke up with a raised, lumpy red rash literally all over her body but in patches (if that makes sense). Was told she had had an allergic reaction to something yet when asked there was absolutely nothing I could think of that she has had that has been different.

The initial rash began to fade after a dose of Piriton syrup, DD crashed out. When she woke up, it was red and raised and lumpy again, but in different parts of her body. It's really strange how it just keeps coming and going, all in different parts. ATM her face is covered, yet this morning it was her legs and her back.

Does this sound normal for an allergy rash? It's starting to concern me again as it doesn't seem to be getting any better. She is well in herself, surprisingly normal and when asked if its itchy, she says no, that it is sore, although she isn't really bothered by it. She isn't rubbing at it or scratching or particularly fretful. She's 3.5 btw.

Sounds like urticaria

Lazylou · 16/06/2007 20:04

Thank you. Have you any idea how long it is likely to last?

DS had this and the g.p said it was an allergic reaction to a virus, even though I couldn't remember ds being ill recently.

Ds had it for 3 weeks altogether and mostly on his face.

The gp did warn me that the rash can last for a few weeks.

Thanks NM. DD has recently been diagnosed with asthma and is taking ventolin for this. She has had a 'cold' for about 3 weeks now so this might be the result of the cold and the asthma together.

3 weeks is a long time though...

It is yep, and the looks I got too were priceless.

Once ds had it all over his body, it then started to fade a bit, starting from his feet going upwards, so his face was last to clear, and it was always worse first thing in the morning and when he was a bit hot, but other than that he was fine.

Hope your Dd is better soon

Oh meant to add that I did give Ds piriton, but it made little difference really, and tbh I don't think the rash was that itchy anyway as he rarley complained.
