Pressure sores

My mum is part way through chemo she's had other treatment alongside the chemo which has involved a few hospital stays. Due to pain she had a period where she could only stay in one position and as a result now has a pressure sore at the base of her spine which is causing quite a bit of discomfort sitting and lying.

It is being treated and appears to be healing but it's still v uncomfortable for her.

She's going through such a hard time right now with treatment and I wondered if anyone knows of any products which may help.

She's sitting on a pillow during the day but wondered if there's anything else we can try?

Thanks in advance.

A pillow won't be doing much to relieve pressure, she could do with a proper pressure cushion - does she have any nurses involved in her care who can provide one?

Is she at home, you could ask her nurses or an o.t. to come and assess her sore and provide equipment like a pressure cushion and a hospital mattress. Sitting on a pillow can increase the pressure. Is she able to change her position at least each hour or stand up for a,while. You could ask the doctor or nurse to have a look at her skin , some people use a honey based cream, I think it's called medi honey..

Thanks I'll try and get her to talk to the nurses. She's at home. She's got a couple of broken vertebrae so she can move but it is quite painful.

I've checked out some pressure cushions on amazon so I think I'll get her one so she has it sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the advice

She may.find it.comfortable to.have a.riser.recliner.chair. Some have.a.built.in.pressure.cushion. All this is available from.the.community and she may not have to pay. If she has a pressure sore at the moment you have to make sure she has the correct type of cushion. Health staff use a scoring system and grade the.sore and recommend what would be best.

Ok great thanks. I'll try to speak to her nurses see if we can get something appropriate.
