Not sure if medicine is contaminated...

My delightful ds1 this morning managed to get in ds2s (6 months) bedroom and pour talcum powder everywhere. We're not sure if he put any in ds2s antibiotics (that he takes as he has kidney reflux) and as it's a white liquid anyway we've no way of checking. I have a repeat prescription but the doctors is closed so won't be able to hand it in until Monday and then won't get it until Wednesday. Not keen on ds2 going without his medicine for 4 days (due to risk of kidney damage if he gets a UTI) but also not keep about giving the medicine if it's got talc in it. What should we do? Would talc harm him if it was ingested? (Just to remind you we're not 100% sure if the medicine has been contaminated or not)

Ring NHS direct.

emergency doc could sort you out with a prescription urgently today if necessary

Did it not have a lid on it at the time?

Haribosmum · 16/06/2007 10:12

No, i KNOW it's stupid but the one time we forget to put the lid back on the little bugger does this! Good job I love him to bits!

You don't need a new prescription - take it to your local pharmacist and explain what's happened. they are (mostly) v understanding and helpful. I know mine would give me a replacement in your situation.

StinkyPete · 16/06/2007 10:18

the phone number for the pharmacy who dispensed it should be on the bottle label

sandcastles · 16/06/2007 10:27

Agree with stinky, the pharmacy should help you if you take it in. They may ask you to supply a new script as soon as you can.

Be greatful that this is all that could have happened, tbh I wouldn't leave medicine of any kind in a child's room...let along one with the lid off.

Lecture over...

I understand what you're saying sandcastles but HONESTLY it's usually on a high shelf with the lid on. I'm not that irresponsible (plus it was dh that left it there! )

I'm not having a go, we all do it...

You have my permission to tell dh off lots tho!

Haribosmum · 16/06/2007 13:46

Went to the chemist, batted my eyelids at him and he gave me some from is 'emergency supply'. He's even going to drop my repeat prescription into the doctors so I can get some more. Nice Mr Chemist Guy!
