What's this inside my dd's mouth?

16 year old dd has been getting what looks like a blood blister inside her mouth on and off for the last few months. She says it doesn't hurt but can push the blood around with her tongue Confused. Pharmacist didn't know what it was.

Can anyone tell me what it is and if she needs to do anything about it.

No idea but I’d make an appointment to see the dentist.

Believeitornot · 23/10/2018 21:04

Just go and see the doctor?

Fettuccinecarbonara · 23/10/2018 21:07

I’d not be happy with that at all, particularly if it’s been there a while.

I’d book a prompt trip to the doctors.

Caprisunorange · 23/10/2018 21:08

I think I’d go to the dentist too.

Does she wear a retainer at night? My eldest had blood blisters in her mouth when she first started wearing it, had it refitted and she hasnt had them since.
I would take her to the doctor if they can't be explained by injury or anything rubbing.

Blood blisters inside the mouth are usually caused by injury; eating something and got a jabbed by a pointy bit, bashed it with her toothbrush etc. But that wouldn't explain the reoccurring nature.

If it's on and off repeatedly then it could be oral herpes, alcohol abuse, cancer, low platelets etc.

Go see a doctor. And I don't want to sound awful but what age is she? Is oral sex/drinking a possibility? She will need to be honest with the doctor so maybe best to let her go in alone.

Looks like a blood blister maybe?

Iaimtomisbehave1 · 23/10/2018 21:17

It could be as simple as an injured area which isn't getting a chance to heal properly so keeps blistering up so don't panic! But best to get it checked.

Iaimtomisbehave1 · 23/10/2018 21:17

@Singlenotsingle

OP called it a blood blister. She's looking for a cause.

Timetobookaholiday · 23/10/2018 21:18

My dentist told me that always get sores in the mouth checked after a week, as the mouth heals very quickly, so anything that hasn't gone in that time need to be checked.

Lurleene · 23/10/2018 21:21

I had something very similar, it is called a mucocele. It lasted for months but is now just a small bump. Apart from being annoying it was harmless. Definitely get it checked out but hopefully this is the case for her too.

RhythmNBooze · 23/10/2018 21:42

Right, Dr it is. Annoyingly the last time she saw the Dr was one of the times it wasn't there. I did also wonder if it was a varicose vein inside her mouth. Is that even possible? It could be a mucocele.
