Dd - worrying over nothing?

Just a question about dd. She has been very off colour today, and has been saying her tummy hurts for a while. She fell asleep at playgroup which is unheard of for her, and went to bed early. She was a little warm. Her breath also smells a bit ketoney, but that may be because she's not eaten much today.

Generally she's very well, BUT does seem to always be hungry, and in the afternoons seems to need to go to the toilet more than I would have thought was normal. But it's only at home, if we're out she's fine, and it's only in the afternoon. She doesn't drink loads.

So am I worrying un-necessarily about i) appendicitis and ii)diabetes? Any thoughts? I'm aware I'm being panicky mum, but I'd hate there to be something wrong. And I will take her to the GP if she doesn't perk up.

My DD2 is 2.5y and I have just fathomed that 'tummy ache' means hungry. She seems to need feeding an hour or two earlier than usual at the moment - but if she has a mid-afternoon snack, she then doesn't eat her dinner. It's a bit annoying but I daresay things will be back to normal in no time.

I've no idea if you're worrying unnecessarily - but it's probably worth a trip to the GP just to be sure.

Don't tell the bootcamp that I'm having yet another very late night!

me too, and I had pizza this evening

I'd be amazed if its appendicitis but it definatley sounds like she is unwell. I would take her to the doctors to be safe. Good Luck

How old is she? Could it be worms?

tortoiseSHELL · 16/06/2007 10:54

She's 3.9. She's a bit better this morning, full of energy and perky, but a bit pale. I'll take her to the GP on monday just to be on the safe side I think, I'd hate there to be something wrong (eg diabetes) and not pick it up, even though I think that's probably unlikely.

I'd take her to the GP to be on the safe side tortoiseshell but I would be surprised if it was either of these two concerns.
When you say going to the loo, I take it you mean passing water?
Could this be a "because I can" sort of scenario? Dd is a great one to frequently visit the facilities when out and about because apart from an escort she can do everything else for herself now.
Hope she feels better soon. I bet the ketosis smell is due to lack of solids.

tortoiseSHELL · 16/06/2007 12:56

Marina, it tends to be 'I NEED A WEE' - she doesn't do huge wees, and it's only really between 2 and 4 in the afternoon she does this, so it could be boredom or something like that. I will take her to be checked though.

Possibly a UTI, this would be best checked by your GP...don't just leave it though.

Best wishes xx

tortoiseSHELL · 18/06/2007 09:28

Went to GP, he said they'd do a urine sample anyway, but did a fairly thorough check, and she has a virus - glands huge, which explains the tummy ache as well and tiredness. Will take a sample in today or tomorrow, but feeling a bit more relieved!

OP posts:
Marina · 18/06/2007 14:43

Phew. Viruses can do quite odd things to them sometimes, glad she has been seen and your mind put at rest

tortoiseSHELL · 18/06/2007 14:50

Thanks Marina, just been back with her wee sample. I have a new name 'the lady with the urine'. The nurse came out and asked if I was said lady. Dd was guarding her pot as if her life depended on it - she was SO proud, and really quite sorry that she couldn't take it home again. Anyway, all's fine, so I'm relieved. I hate google sometimes.

Marina · 18/06/2007 14:55

I know what you mean about google. LOL at the wee sample, you need to watch her carefully to make sure she does not start customising her teacups or anything else if she now has a good sampling technique!
UTIs in children can be very difficult to diagnose and treat so hurrah that she is in the clear!

tortoiseSHELL · 18/06/2007 14:56

Oh good point marina!

(about the teacups I mean - she makes me a cup of tea every morning with a bit of help from dad of course - she comes in every morning at about 6.45 and says 'Mumma, would you like a cup of tea?', I say oh yes please, at which point she shakes dh and says 'You have to help me make Mumma a cup of tea!!!!!'

I was just imagining what my dd would get up to armed with that ability
She is notorious in our NCT group for her precision poo into ds' Chad Valley army helicopter cabin

Marina · 18/06/2007 14:59

But yours sounds far less feral Mine mainly steals other people's tea

tortoiseSHELL · 18/06/2007 17:22

LOL at precision poo! Dd can be feral with the best of them - her favourite pastime atm is making bogs.
