Is there a link between pregnancy & eye floaters? Are those wierd drop things safe?

I've had eye floaters and lots of them since I was 18. I was told it was unusual at my age but no probs where found and I've learned to live with them - even though they are always in my vision.

Today I woke up to find a new, prominent, dark one in the top of my vision. Its really annoying because it looks like somthing hanging into my eye, but it isn't.

I've heard you can get more eye floater type things when pregnant because of protein getting in the eye. Has anyone heard of/experienced this? Can it fade? Also, when I get it checked out tomorrow, are those drops that dilate the pupils safe to use on pregnant women?

Feeling really crappy about it.

Depending on where you go, you may not have to cope with those eye drops - I had mine checked a little while back, for the same reasons as you (well, without the pregnancy), and they used a special camera thing that just looked in my eye without the dilation drops.

I'd expect the drops are safe, though, they are only a tiny bit, and they only affect your eye, afaik.

Are you at risk of retinal detachment? Are you very short-sighted?

Hmmm, looks like they're not sure . Bet nobody's tested it.

At any rate, you should try to get the special machine that looks in your eye. Much less unpleasant, anyway.

That's for that NQC

Woke up today and to my amazement the wierd blobby thing was gone. Kept half expecting to see it again but, fingers crossed, it seems to have gone.

Went to the eye casulty this AM and the doctor there said that while they do use the drops on pregnant women, they haven't been tested and with my eye 'blob' gone, why take the risk? They said if it was retinal detachment it would def still be there. So I left. They also said that eye floaters can be made worse by pregnancy.

Really hoping it or any other ones don't come back, but mostly...so glad the thing has gone! Wierd.
