Rosacea cream/treatment recommendations?

DH has regular outbreaks and it's getting him down. He uses Dermalex at the moment but it doesn't seem to do much for him.

Any recommendations for anything that calms the red and generally makes it better?

Hi I’ve been using lymcycline (antibiotic) for a number of years (on and off) and it works perfectly. I only need to take when I feel a flare up is about to start and within days my skin is calm and back no normal with no redness or breakouts. Tried creams, gels etc they either don’t work it have minimal effect.

purplemunkey · 20/10/2018 16:14

Thanks Christine, did you need a prescription for that?

I got erythromycin from the GP they were great! Boots Avene moisturiser is good too

HRTpatch · 20/10/2018 16:21

I have had LED therapy this year and had no flare ups at all

NickyNora · 20/10/2018 16:26

Ask the Gp for soolantra, brilliant stuff.

CS68 · 20/10/2018 17:31

Hi yes your GP should give you a prescription

Eloisedublin123 · 20/10/2018 18:49

I took oral antibiotics for this for the past 7 years and stopped 6 months ago as I thought it must be rotten for me for that long. Skins awful at the mo!

LuluBellaBlue · 20/10/2018 18:51

Creams never really worked for me, had IPL treatment and it’s never been bad since (4 years now).
I do use full sun block every day and started when getting the treatment done and that helps any minor flare ups.
Oh and no red wine Angry

Sounds like the creams are of no use. I'll suggest he goes to the GP and gets a prescription for some antibiotics.

Thanks everyone.

Another recommendation for Soolantra. Used for three months and it’s really calmed my redness and bumps. Now using Kalme and PCA skincare.

MissSleepyMcSleeperson · 21/10/2018 09:13

Has he tried Cetaphil? My GP recommended it (she also does some dermatology clinics at the local hospital) and it's been really helpful for me. You can get a wash and a moisturiser, and both have helped my skin stay calm (despite wearing make up everyday!!).

I'm not sure it will help when it's really bad (I've also had to take lymcycline a few times) but once it's under control I've found it brilliant

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 21/10/2018 09:52

Soolantra is a cream yes but it's only been out a couple of years or so. It's specifically for Rosacea so don't just write it off. It's very expensive so if you get a prescription then do use it, however it can get worse before it gets better. Far better than shoving antibiotics in when there's not targeted therapies.

Eloisedublin123 · 21/10/2018 10:08

Anyone tried the Kalme skincare range? Thinking of buying the whole lot tomorrow!🤪

freedles · 21/10/2018 18:56

erythromycin was my saviour - I had horrible bumps which would ooze and clear liquid and make my skin flake all over my cheeks and nose (delightful!). I was probably spending £80 a month on different creams etc... Make up was useless. I didn't want oral antibiotics (was ttc) so they gave me erythromycin solution and it has been amazing. I used it for a few months and now only get it if I'm having a flare up. changed my life! :)
