Help with B12, iron etc results- please!

I had some blood work done last week after another massive relapse of my CFS/ME. I received the results but not sure exactly what they mean; google is conflicting at times on what is considered optimal and the gp receptionist just said nothing of concern.

B12- 64 pmol/L
Folate- 2.31 ug/L
Ferritin- 77.2 ug/L
Vitamin D- 46.5 nmol/L

For anyone who may know about these things or have a deficiency themselves, do these all seem fine? I know things sometimes fall within the ‘normal’ range but not necessarily mean your body is working to its best. I’m so sick of being bedridden once again and would love anything that might make me feel a little better. I’m also experiencing new symptoms like hair falling out and heart palpitations which I’m none the wiser over.

It's always difficult to interpret test results without the reference ranges, but B12 and folate are jumping out at me. Do you have the ranges for those two?

Eloisedublin123 · 17/10/2018 22:21

B12 should be 500

B12 is extremely low (unless it's Active B12, which if it's the NHS I highly doubt it), folate is low, Vitamin D is low. Ferritin is ok but wouldn't hurt getting it a bit higher.

Vitamin D needs to be 100. B12 at least 500. Folate needs to be somewhat higher, haven't seen any actual numbers though.

I'd push for pernicious anaemia testing given how low your B12 is. You should also be on injections.

Hi OP

I'm going through similar at the moment and also have more questions than answers...

However, your B12 looks really low, unless it's an active B12 test as PP said. Does your result show the normal range? Mine was measured in ng/L and the low end of the normal range started at 180ng/L.

You can't interpret the results without knowing the ref ranges of the tests! They should be next to the results on the report.
