Nauseous when exhausted...

I’ve noticed in the last few months that when I’m over tired I start to feel nauseous. As soon as I’ve gone to sleep it’s fine but I always find it difficult to sleep as it is. The last month has been crazy with distractions in the night due to a death in the family. Any one else experienced this,

Are you on any medication & do you eat a snack before bed?

I take pain relief & if I dont eat a snack before bed, my blood sugar drops and I feel sick.

Graphista · 16/10/2018 22:50

That sounds like low blood sugar.

Are you eating regularly? Or are your eating habits haphazard? Are you thirsty, more tired than usual, overweight especially around the middle?

If so you may need to consider type 2 diabetes.

Could you be pregnant?

I have congenital hypothyroidism, had it since birth but first time I’ve had these symptoms in 30 years. Not got diabetes, have to be checked regularly because of the thyroid. And defo not pregnant. I can’t eat before bed as struggle with reflux 😩

I get nauseous when I’m over tired and I eat a banana! For some reason it really helps!

Millipedewithherfeetup · 16/10/2018 23:20

I get this when I get up very early and am overtired...have actually vomited on more than one occasion.I'm just a night hawk and really don't do mornines.

Screaminginsidemeagain · 16/10/2018 23:21

Any dizziness? Could be labyrinthitus.

Graphista · 17/10/2018 01:10

When were you last checked for diabetes? Are you on medication for the hypothyroidism?

sophisticatedsarcasm · 17/10/2018 06:35

About 2 months ago and I’ve had this a bit before. I’m on Levothyroxine. 😖 like I’ve woke up totally fine.

I'd recommend you try buscopan - it's an anti-spasmodic. It essentially slows your entire gastrointestinal processes meaning no spasms (and hopefully no nausea). Alternatively see your GP and ask for mebeverine - it's the same drug type but (imo) works better. Either drug starts at the back of your throat, down the oesophageal track into the stomach. From the stomach it works down the common bile duct, into the small intestine then large intestine.

Would recommend getting re-tested for diabetes. I think you should get checked over. You can ask for an anti-emetic such as cyclizine or ondansetton to control the nausea.

Graphista · 17/10/2018 11:57

You could still have developed it since then definitely worth getting checked.

You say you have a thyroid problem. My daughter has adrenal insufficiency (Addison’s) and one of the symptoms of low cortisol is nausea. Addison’s and thyroid problems often go hand in hand apparently. Cortisol is the stress hormone so would be hit if you were stressed in any form, emotionally, physically. Indeed tiredness counts as a stress on the body.
