Has anyone suffered or is suffering from Vitamin B12 deficiency?

I have a feeling that I might be really deficient in b12. I haven't been to the doctors yet as I am due to go on holiday in a weeks' time so I will book a routine appointment for when I get back.

But for quite a few months now, I have been suffering from horrible fatigue and exhaustion. I have a two year old and I can't even play with him half of the time because I have no energy to even get up off the sofa. I feel like a shit mum! Even going out and taking him park physically exhausts me.

I sleep well at night and he sleeps throughout. In the morning, I am absolutely exhausted despite having 7-8 hours sleep. As soon as he goes for a nap, I end up going for a nap as well and when he wakes up, it takes me a good half hour before I can drag myself out of bed.

I am so sick and tired of feeling this way. I don't feel like I am lazy because I really want to do things and be motivated and efficient but I can't be because I am just permanently tired. I work part time and that just makes me feel even more drained. A few years ago, my MCHC levels was slightly high which is apparently could be a sign that I am lacking vitamin b12 but they said just to eat more food fortified in b12. I have noticed my mental ability is not good and I can't seem to think properly. I always make mistakes and drop things, clumsiness, etc!

My diet is healthy. I eat lots of meat, fruit and vegetables. Plenty of eggs as well. So I am at loss really! Can anyone tell me what your signs and symptoms are? Should I try taking vitamin b12 capsules until I get to a GP appointment?

I have regular B12 jags following blood tests

You may have pernicious anaemia, which means your body can’t absorb the B12 from your stomach. That would mean that no matter how much b12-rich food you eat, or supplements you take, it won’t do you any good as you physically can’t absorb what you need.

I would go to the GP and ask them to do a range of blood tests - b12, folate, iron, thyroid, full blood count, vit d. I am not an expert at all, but I do have pernicious anaemia and under active thyroid, and I know that all the things I have mentioned to get tested ‘talk’ to each other. If one isn’t working, therefore, it could knock a whole range of things off kilter.

If you are b12 deficient or have pernicious anaema, I would recommend joining a fabulously knowledgeable and supportive group on Facebook who will advise you much better than I have. It’s called ‘Pernicious Anaemia/B12 Deficiency Support Group’.

I’m trying to remember what I can through my own brain fog!!

And not so tired !

I had b12 and ferritin deficiency’s. Felt as awful as you mention you feel now. Doc said I was borderline on blood results but I was very systematic so have been taking high levels of iron b12 and b complex for a year now. And feel better. Oh and also vit d. Recently I also gave up sugar as I think that helps with energy too and it does help. (Anti candida diet) x
