C section scar - had to be sewn up differently!

I’ll start by saying how lucky and grateful I am - I’ve just had my third c section, I have three beautiful children, all three sections have healed without infection and I’ve had no real complications.

However, at the end of this c section (10 days ago) the consultant said she couldn’t do the usual stitch at the end of the wound and that she’d have to put the stitches on the outside. She said I’d see the stitches just now (it was a clear dressing) but the stitches would dissolve just the same. I thought that sounded fine, no problem.

I took the dressing off 3 days ago and had a proper look. The first part of my scar is usual, neat, fine line, no lumps or bumps, like it has been sewn with an invisible/laddder stitch. The final 2/3 inches are totally different, it looks like the two edges have just been sandwiched together to create a raised, lumpy edge. DH says it could settle down but it actually looks like it has healed very well, the stitches have dissolved too, it’s just been poorly sewn up. Perhaps that’s all the consultant could do with it but I’m feeling pretty sad about it. It feels horrible and raised and it looks really unsightly.

Has anyone else had a scar like this? Does it get better? Is there anything I can do? I’ll say again how lucky I’ve been, I hope my post doesn’t upset anyone, but this issue is getting me down.

Gosh OP 10 days is nothing at all! It's your third so it probably won't look like the others did but it's still got plenty of time to heal more.

I have had two sections and my scar is a weird "tick" shape...I don't know why. It's just a scar though...it's not on my face or anything so bugger it!

Congratulations by the way! Flowers

Once healed cilicone scar sheets help push the scar down andmake it less vissible. Congrats

I remember having a thickened ridge a few inches long in the middle of my c section scar. The midwife who checked me on my first day at home said it might always be a little raised even when healed. I wasn’t bothered (I was too happy to have been given a section in the first place!).

Not only did it heal completely flat, I practically have to get a magnifying glass out to even see the scar. I’m really amazed how well it healed considering the wound didn’t look that neat.

Try not to worry - I had cosmetic surgery and the wound looked like that initially- I was horrified but it's invisible now. Must've been swelling.

I’ve had 3 sections too and had the whole lumpy scar thing. Can barely see them (I have 2 c-section scars!) now. Took time but they’re flat and even now.

Congrats on the new baby!

My first scar had a raised bit the whole length of the scar.

I thought it's was keloid.

My second is flat and virtually invisible.

I figured it out... my first section I was clamped and the second I was stitched... and they did a fine job! It's almost disappeared.

When my dressing come off the second one it was raised at the corners and I was concerned but nurse said it was probably swelling and will go away.

Congrats Btw.

Thank you everyone, for your congratulations and your reassurance. It’s actually looking a bit better already. I’ll give it a bit longer to settle and then maybe try the silicone scar sheets. I’m feeling better about it all, think crazy hormones were playing a part too!

The end of my 2nd section scar was like that. My original scar was an all alarms going situation so I was cut hip to hip. When I had my second, rather than open the whole scar up, she left about 2 inches of my original one and so couldn't finish it the way she normally would (at least I think that's how she described it). I was really stressed about the way it looks which was very similar to your description, 4 months on, I've got a tiny white line that you need to be millimeters away to see.

clumsyduck · 16/10/2018 23:10

Unless I'm misunderstanding your description - my whole scar was like this !! Took a while but It is now a very fine white line ! I kind of miss it !

After my first c section one end of my scar was like this, big and lumpy. It stayed the same for 6 years until I had section 2 and they made a great job of it, small neat and flat all the way across. I think it depends on the skills of the surgeon to be honest.

Despite not looking great, my scar never caused me any problems when it was lumpy.
