Any dentists awake? Toothache in upper and lower teeth

Pain started about two weeks ago in upper right molar, which was also very sensitive to heat and cold. Went to my dentist, who found fine cracks in the tooth, removed a filling in that and the adjacent tooth and put a temporary dressing in both. She said if it didn’t work it would help to pinpoint the source of the pain. It’s now got much worse. At night I get severe pain in the parallel teeth on my bottom jaw too, which keeps me awake. The pain seems to be coming from the gums, which are painful to touch. I’m using clove oil but it only works temporarily. Aargh - so painful!

OP the longer you have it the worse it will get.
You sound lovely elfride
The pain can be excruciating OP. At one point I had hardly time to sleep for taking tablets having had my first and only one abscess. Never again!

Will try the pro-enamel, thanks. It’s not too bad now I’m up and about - have even managed to eat breakfast!

Clove oil isn't meant for gums, it will burn, which just adds to your pain.

Removing the old filling and replacing with a temp is a first step that lots of dentists would have done.

Surprised as to lack of xray though, but I am sure your dentist had her reasons.

And always warm salty water NOT hot. Again, it will burn and because it is too hot, you won't keep it in your mouth long enough to achieve anything.

NB - dental nurse, not dentist.

Sorry, didn't see ElfrideSwancourt's post before I posted.

I think it’s because I had one fairly recently at my last check up and there was nothing there then

Could it be sinusitis? I had toothache which got better and worse and better again over several years and I mentioned it to various dentists and had a few x-rays showing all was well with teeth.

Eventually this spring my new dentist showed me on an x-Ray that the large sinus in my left upper jaw runs very close to the tooth roots. The pain does sometimes switch to the lower jaw too, but always on the same side of my face. Now I know what it is I can relax, knowing it will pass, but it takes a few weeks sometimes.

I agree that sinus pain really effects your teeth, my teeth are the first things to hurt when my sinuses play up!

LaBelleSauvage123 · 27/10/2023 19:57
