Colonoscopy, freaking out

Hi everyone. So since I had baby no 2 October 2017 I've had dodgy bowels. Hard to poop so Dr put me on laxido and senna tablets..... so everything settled so I took myself off them. After about a month of normal now I'm back to pooping and then about an hour later it feels wet, wipe myself and then there is fresh red blood sometimes and then the runs here and there. Went to Dr today I had blood tests and stool test in March all clear. She didn't seem concerned but because I'm paranoid and thinking bowel cancer she has referred me for a colonoscopy to put my mind at ease. But now I'm totally freaking about the whole thing. What if they do find something 😩

It's much more likely to be something far less dangerous, like ulcerative colitis. Ask her about what she thinks might be causing it. You don't mention your age, but colorectal cancer would be very, very unusual for a woman in her 20's or 30's.

I had a colonoscopy 2 years ago for bleeding after poos. After a few weeks of it not stopping I went to the gp and was referred for an urgent one.

The bowel prep was rather effective - just make sure you're near a toilet and no one will disturb you for a few hours!

My dh drove me to the hospital for the appointment. He asked if I was nervous and I remember selling him no, because even if there was something serious then at least it was going to be found and dealt with immediately before it had a chance to spread. You've done the right thing by going to the gp and getting it investigated.

Ps, my results came back as tiny tiny piles - no further action needed

Whatever is going on, it's better to find out so that they can deal with it, if necessary. It doesn't sound like your GP thinks cancer is a likely diagnosis. Do you have an appointment for the colonoscopy yet? Hopefully you won't have to wait too long Flowers

I've got one in about 10 days and I'm freaking out with 'what ifs' as well. I'm symptom free but have a family history of bowel cancer and have reached the age where it's best to check.
GP & specialist have been very reassuring and told me they don't expect to find anything and I should just treat it like an MOT.
The anxious part of me is going crazy worrying that they'll find something but then the rational part me says IF they find something, then the sooner the better.
I know it's tough but try to listen to your GP and see it as a positive thing.

Thanks for the replies ladies. I'm 32.... Dr just thinks I have dodgy bowels. I've had problems for years but more so after I had my second son last year. I was put on iron tablets and Ooft that's where it all started. I don't take them anymore!

I'm not sure 'dodgy bowels' is a very authoritative diagnosis. More like the reason for investigating.
